Cross Days

From 0verflow, the maker of the infamous eroge School Days, comes their second ‘spinoff’ series Cross Days. The main hero is not the Makoto that we love to hate, but an even more harmless-looking guy named Yuuki. Now since Makoto (誠) means fidelity, which he has none of, does this mean that Yuuki (勇気 – courage) will be even more of a pitiful lead? We all know where this is headed. A nice boat ending.

All joking aside, Cross Days differs from the other ‘spinoff’ Summer Days in that it runs alongside School Days as opposed to a chance for Makoto to screw every girl that shows up along with their mothers and younger sisters joke sequel per se. This sets up some interesting and delicious plot twists. Yuuki admires Kotonoha, but develops a friendship with new heroine Roka. Kotonoha is the girlfriend of some guy named Makoto, but Yuuki hears that Makoto’s been courting some other girl as well (guess who). So Yuuki approaches Kotonoha to tell her about the truth behind Makoto (no pun intended).

To set the facts straight, School Days isn’t all bloody and bad ends. It’s just that majority of the endings are neutral or slightly bad. And the bloody ends are… really bloody. Although I think the anime ending was up there in the kill count factor. I still think that the Kotonoha suicide ending was the one that had the most effect with the cell phone breaking milliseconds before it happened.

I expect the same to happen in Cross Days. This series has been typecasted into having such endings and has too much of a following to not include them. Cross Days will be released on February 27th, 2009.
