March 2018 Eroge Releases

March 15, 2018 at 12:15 am 6 comments

There is a trio of mysteries this month: La’cryma and Hiyoko Soft’s collaboration work Kieta Sekai to Tsuki to Shoujo, Azurite’s Akumade, Kore wa~ no Monogatari, and SILKY’s PLUS A5 Wagyu’s Butterfly Seeker. If you would like to sit back and relax instead, there’s Carol Works’ Natsuiro Ramune and PULLTOP’s all-ages Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata. For me, I’m looking forward to the always entertaining ASa Project’s Karigurashi Ren’ai and YuzuSoft’s RIDDLE JOKER.

A trio of mysteries indeed, with the big mystery they all share being why no one can get the mystery game formula right despite it being so simple. Quantity will never compare to quality so if you enjoy actual mystery and not poorly written tripe like Higurashi then you get to cry tears of sadness and frustration this March. On the other hand if all you want are random deus ex plot twists and super powered crime solving children then boy is this the month for you. Rest of it is the usual eroge fare with our long running favorite charage makers Yuzusoft and Asa Project making appearances in what I can only assume is going to be the eroge equivalent of a chainsaw cage brawl to the death as they fight for their overlapping customers, aka: all of them.

Mell Kiss

Company: 戯画 (GIGA)
Game site: メルキス
Release date: March 23, 2018
Comments:
It was the start of the summer vacation for second-year student Ryouichi. There were no dramatic events in his casual school life. That was until one day, his homeroom teacher announced that the festival commemorating the founding of the school will be Halloween-themed, and that there was a new transfer student to the class.

A meeting with a new classmate. The first trial at the festival. The obstacle-free days begin to pass by. What kind of future awaits him?

The latest game in GIGA’s Kiss series focuses not only on icharabu, but also the mutual innocence and slight awkwardness during the beginning of a relationship. This is probably the first time I’ve been somewhat interested in one of their games since I like the sweets-loving osananajimi Yuzu (who reminds me of Mobamas‘s Kanako) and kouhai Tsuzuri (who comes with her best friend Hinako). There’s also the new classmate Airi, who might not be completely foreign to him after all. It seems like a safe, if not boring, pick for this month.

You know I would very much like to see a game made where a girl transfers in only to be a background npc. At this point transfering is the most cliche shortcut to heroine status, usually true ending heroine at that. Why even bother at this point, may as well just line them all up in the class from the start as the result will be the same whether possibly mysterious transfer student is there from the start or not.

As is par for Giga Mell Kiss is the most basic eroge template with nothing else. I think Giga forgot that the eroge by numbers kit they bought to churn out quick games between emptying the increasingly rotten Baldr dumpster is meant to have things added onto it. For a long time now I have made it quite clear that I would rather a basic game to a pile of poorly made gimmicks. Problem is Giga just releases the same game every other month under a different name. Maybe if they weren’t all boring I would mind less. The key in making basic good lies in the writing. If reading feels like eating saltine crackers for hours even if not bad there just doesn’t seem to be much point.

Transfer students are common in such stories since it’s something different from the usual monotony of school life, at least for protagonists that seldom take any initiative nor yearn for anything beyond a ‘peaceful school life’.

And yet, it has become such a generic cliche that a transfer student IS the monotony of school life at this point. Or well the monotony of eroge life at least. Which would be fine if it was enjoyable well written monotony, but the last time that happened was practically the stone ages in eroge terms.

Unjou no Fairy Tale

Company: COSMIC CUTE
Game site: 雲上のフェアリーテイル
Release date: March 23, 2018
Comments:
This is a fairy tale that takes place in the lawless town of Kaguya that floats in the sky. Tsukasa runs Café Amelia with a lone employee, the self-proclaimed future great magician Natsu. However, they have another side to them; they are part of a team of justice-fighters that do everything from preventing thefts to serving as personal guards. The other members of the team are also frequent visitors to the coffee shop: the songstress Daria and the strongest swordswoman Makoto.

One day, Natsu and Makoto rescued a princess who was looking for her missing older brother. This girl Yuki was actually Tsukasa’s imouto…

The setting is pretty similar to COSMIC CUTE’s previous game Sora no Tsukurikata. It’s another high tempo offering with an eccentric cast. I’m fond of Hatori Ichi’s voicing of Natsu; she seems to be getting a lot of similar roles lately (Making*Lovers‘s Ako and Kanoten‘s Touka come to mind). The trial was pretty entertaining (although with a few dull stretches), especially when you throw in the reincarnated maou Simone and Cagliostro-like lolibaba alchemist Nemo, so it could be a fun play for when you want to shut your brain off.

My general stance towards any game of any type is to go all out in whatever direction you want. In this case if you want to make a wacky game then go nuts and make the sky pink and gravity sideways. Which makes me feel slightly awkward here as they embrace the crazy mostly but not quite completely. Were Cosmic Cute to just let go of any sense of inhibition things would turn out better and more fun in my opinion.

Otherwise as Micchi said this is one of those games you relax to with your brain in neutral. Sometimes it can be nice to forget the drama and high schools, where you don’t have to worry too much if the writing is good or bad as long as something is happening.

Kieta Sekai to Tsuki to Shoujo

Company: La’cryma×ひよこソフト (La’cryma×Hiyoko Soft)
Game site: 消えた世界と月と少女
Release date: March 23, 2018
Comments:
This is a collaboration work between La’cryma and Hiyoko Soft. Seiji returned to his hometown after many years to investigate the truth behind his mother’s death and he was caught up in a series of mysterious murders that seemed to imitate local folklore. Trapped in this town surrounded by mountains, he must solve the ‘five difficult problems’ as those he know began to disappear one by one. Will the truth that awaits him be one of hope or despair?

Considering people are dying and disappearing, I’d be inclined to believe that it’d be one of despair. Hiyoko Soft has got the traditional-style mystery/suspense side down and it seems like La’cryma’s typical battle scenes will come in the latter half (with the reveal of new characters at the end of the trial). Not at the top of my list, but it might be of interest to others.

As far as eroge horror / mystery goes the plot here is as basic as “Hello World”. Protagonist returns or travels to relatives in some rustic town where occult stuff happens and our misfit band of retarded children turned heroes must save the day. Or die painfully. More of the latter we can only hope. At least assuming it is not in a stupid way like Higurashi. Frankly don’t get your hopes too high as nothing here hasn’t been done roughly 101 times before. So regardless of being good or bad things are marred from the outset by being rather predictable with a been there done that vibe looming over everything.

Nah it’s pretty much like Higurashi, except with fortissimo-like elements.

So what you are saying is, Higurashi with an extra serving of chuuni.

Pure Marriage ~Akai Ito Monogatari Harem-hen~

Company: Lass Pixy
Game site: Pure Marriage ~赤い糸物語 ハーレム編~
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
Lass Pixy decided to add an additional title to their low-priced Pure Marriage series because everyone loves a good harem. So you can now have all three of them, plus a cat. No complaints here.

What if I want a dog?

No bitch for you, only pussy.

I have zero complaints.

RIDDLE JOKER

Company: ゆずソフト (YuzuSoft)
Game site: RIDDLE JOKER
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
Due to the discovery of a particle at the end of the 20th century, the mysterious ability formerly called ‘ESP’ was now referred to as ‘astral ability’, and those who possessed this ability were deemed ‘astral users’. Satoru lives a peaceful life in this world as a plain commoner. However, it was just a façade since he is actually an astral user who is an agent of a secret organization!

A new order was given to him: he must infiltrate Kikka Academy, a school of astral users. He successfully infiltrated the academy with his imouto Nanami and fit in seamlessly with his class, having made friends with classmates Ayase and Hazuki, as well as his senpai Mayu. Everything was going smoothly… until his cover was blown to Ayase in an unexpected situation!

At the same time, he found out her deepest secret: her chest was padded!

This encounter that resulted in them knowing each other’s unspeakable secret will have a great influence on their fates.

I’m not sure if those two secrets are on the same level, but hey I’m not a girl, so maybe using bra pads is extremely embarrassing. While her dream of an E cup has not been attained (yet), she shouldn’t feel too down about having a smaller chest. I don’t mind it at all. I’m sure it’ll be another good chara-ge from YuzuSoft. You can’t go wrong with Kobuichi/Muririn art, a sound story and a stellar seiyuu cast (Kiritani Hana, Haruka Sora, Kusuhara Yui). Of course there’s also imouto Nanami and her friend Chisaki. I love YuzuSoft!

Batman villians, by your powers combined, I am terrible eroge setting.

Yuzusoft makes charage. We all know this. They know this, I hope so anyway. So there are no secrets there. Which begs the question of why they are so ashamed of being charage? There is nothing wrong with that, even for me I enjoy a good, keyword being good mind you, charage here and there. Like I said earlier whatever you are going to make, embrace it. Sadly though Yuzusoft really loves to come up with this contrived settings that manhandle their stories in a way that is both irrelevant and often annoying. Nothing significant really changes based on the characters being vampires, living in Laputa, or having an arbitrary name applied to their random special effects. All that these things change is to make the background need more explaining and create more unneeded padding between the reader and the characters via a story we didn’t ask for. As much as I loathe high school settings Yuzusoft would do a lot better by buckling down and going back to the basics. I don’t hate Yuzusoft games by any stretch it’s just while reading I feel like I am panhandling through a ton of silt for some gold nuggets. We only care about the characters, not their setting, so please Yuzu, simple is best, and don’t add on unless it makes things better.

I think it’s so that all their chara-ge don’t end up feeling the same like GIGA’s.

Fair and good point. But in that case I would like them to put a little more effort into it so everything didn’t feel half hearted and tedious to read through. It’s not like I am saying they should cut out all the other bits but rather get all their basics laid out, then only add onto the setting something that adds to what they have. Be that making it more amusing during comedic scenes, or making the characters more interesting. They aren’t exactly doing things wrong just in comparison to say Asa Project, they aren’t doing things right either.

Akumade, Kore wa~ no Monogatari

Company: Azurite
Game site: あくまで、これは~の物語
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
Jouichi has been constantly moving and changing schools because of his parent’s work, so he never really made many friends nor had a girlfriend. A few years ago, one of his best friends committed suicide. He never really understood the truth behind it and hoped to solve it one day.

Now he lives in a village in the heart of the mountains, which prospers from the many tourists that visit the region by shinkansen. With the arrival of summer, the town was in a festival mood. Jouichi and his childhood friend Emi helped out with setting up the grounds, meeting the quiet Kana, lively Hinami and gentle onee-san Yukari. There was also one other thing that occurred at that time. When Emi was showing him how to use the chat program NEEL on his new smartphone, it vibrated as he received a notification message. It was a friend request from their friend who should have been dead.

If you check out the PV below, you’d almost think it was a quaint relaxing summer game with maybe a bit of drama. But that’s not how Azurite rolls. It’s actually a mystery with plenty of bad ends (and a ridiculously long flowchart). It reminds me of Sumikko games with the juxtaposition between the cute art by Nanao Naru, Nanaroba Hana and Mikeou, and a dark and bloody story. Each of the four routes is written by a different writer, and most haven’t worked much on complex story-based games like this before. It’s interesting that the staff is completely different from their debut title, Shinsou Noise. I thought that the trial was fine with the suspense part (who is pulling the strings behind everything?), but it’s odd having the seemingly requisite swimsuit and ecchi scenes randomly thrown in. Still it is a promising title if you’re looking for a deeper story, even if there’s many other decent choices this month.

Eroge protagonists are either completely alone with all family and often friends being dead or non-existent, or covered in more of the opposite sex than a strip of flypaper dangling over the corpses of eroge parents. This time being a case of the former it would seem with protagonist revisiting the days of yore when he had friends, at least one of whom then died. Most likely in what will surely be a futile attempt to avoid appearing in this game.

The most important part of any mystery plot is caring. Do you care about the characters enough to feel tension when they are in a dangerous situation. Do you care about what is causing all the random murders. If the answer is no then it is being done wrong. Which brings out the biggest problem here, the whole thing is somewhat chaotic, as if there are two games having a bout of fisticuffs over who is going to get more screen time. There is the standard high school romance plot set in a laid back rural setting. While on the other hand there is a murder mystery drama in what amounts to a closed circle setting. Given this lead up and the arrangement of route writing I can’t help but feel the routes themselves will become even more of a mess as things drag on. So if a good well written story with tension and mystery is what you are looking for, it is probably better to look elsewhere. What we have is a token attempt to appeal towards as many people as possible by putting a murder mystery wall paper over a high school charage.

Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai ~Daisuki o Kimi Dake ni~

Company: ensemble
Game site: お嬢様は素直になれない ~大好きをキミだけに~
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
This is the fandisc for Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai, with after stories for each of the five heroines, as well as a new route for sub-heroine Wakaba. The always cheerful Wakaba is both pretty and kind, earning a second place in the character poll. It’s only natural that she’d get a route in the fandisc.

Fandisk.

Karigurashi Ren’ai

Company: ASa Project
Game site: かりぐらし恋愛
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
Takuma had many fond memories of the town where he used to live as a child and he wished to return there one day. He worked hard to pass the entrance exam for the only school in the town and successfully achieved his long-cherished dream!

He moved back to the town for a new start, planning on living by himself in his childhood home, but it was in such a dilapilated state that it was essentially uninhabitable. Without the money to look for a temporary residence, Takuma was at a loss as to what to do.

Fortunately, his childhood friends came to his rescue! While he couldn’t live with them forever, he was welcomed to stay in the four families’ homes on a rotation system. One of them strongly objected to it, but she was persuaded in the end. Thus begins a very peculiar ‘revolving temporary residency life’.

I’m a simple man. I see ASaPro game; I play ASaPro game. They’re one of the best in the business for slapstick comedy, which is exactly what I want and need most days. One of the osananajimis Hiyori (CV: Kusuhara Yui) has the surname Niizuma. It’s like she was born to be a newly-wed. Well, don’t mind if I do!

Asa Project games are more or less all the same thing. Ignore excuse for the guy to wind up being joined at the hip of whatever themed batch of girls are on sale this time and enjoy the process. In other words simple games to turn your brain off and let it entertain you. I have no problems with this as they aren’t being pretentious about what kind of games they make and who they are marketing them to. So carry on Asa Project, I’ll be hoping for a more amusing game than your last outing.

Zutto Mae Kara Joshi Deshita

Company: feng
Game site: ずっと前から女子でした
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
New release date after being pushed back from February. Haruya’s family runs a group of ryokan and he grew surrounded by women, led by his pushy sisters. He never truly got over his uneasiness around girls, so he had only attended boys’ schools until now. While he was more comfortable around his guy friends, he was at the age where he started to show interest in the opposite sex. He wondered if he could find a girl who was cute and not scary.

Returning to his hometown after ten years, he transferred to a co-ed school for the first time. He was excited to meet new people, but unexpectedly he was reacquainted with an old friend with whom he often played as kids.

“Eh… You weren’t a boy!?”

Haruya had always thought that Sena was a boy, so he was undoubtedly surprised when he discovered the truth. She had a totally different feel around her, and she had grown to become very beautiful….

It’s just a low-priced game where you can get to know your childhood friend quite well. Sena has a complex about her large breasts. Yes, oppai complex is a real thing.

Feng hasn’t done a full scale game in quite awhile. I suppose this format works better for them anyway as misses aren’t as big of a deal, while hits are even better. This time is nothing special, and thanks to that may not be too bad. Better to keep things simple and enjoyable than ruin everything attempting a gimmick.

That said, their cover art annoys me. Slapping an HCG right there on the front doesn’t say anything good about a game. Can only hope it is bait, and not telling how the story goes.

Taking all bets as to whether it will make it this month. Honestly with all the delays this must be buggier than a bubonic plague infested rat if they have to keep dragging out a game this simple.

Paradise Ocean

Company: PIXEL MINT
Game site: ぱらだいすお~しゃん
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
This is the debut game for PIXEL MINT. “Paradise Ocean” is a cruise ship that sails across the sparkling blue seas with a school aboard. New students jumped on the chance to have a taste of a luxurious cruise for a low tuition. However, there’s no free lunch in this world. In order to pay off their school and living expenses, they are forced to work as the ship’s crew! Trapped in despair from the outside world, they have to rely on each other to have a glimmer of hope.

Cruises are great, but the crew have to work tons of hours. On the plus side, you get to travel to a lot of new places. You should try it if you haven’t done so before! In this game, you have to do tasks around the ship, like cleaning, patrol and doing concerts, to earn money and increase your rank, which in turn opens up other areas of the ship. Each task is essentially a mini game, which is not surprising since the the scenario writer Shigeta comes from Lump of Sugar and mirai/Lillian. It should be a decent slapstick/rabukome chara-ge with the standard rainbow cast of heroines. I’m fond of Ao: she’s spunky (adorably stupid), has twintails, the right size and wears a beret. Hau~ omochikaeri~!

I recall either Rail or Liar soft doing something similar to this awhile ago, which was not a bad game but was hampered by the typically terrible writing those companies suffer from. In this case I hope for a more light-hearted comedic affair that is an enjoyable read.

On the other hand though I am not too sure about the mini game aspect. As long as you can turn it off after you beat the game once and the games aren’t too obnoxious I’ll concede their inclusion. However should they become annoying or force you to redo them every time you play the game then I cannot pray to the voodoo gods hard enough that this ship sinks and carries its terrible, tedious, time wasting stop signs to the bottom of the sea with it before they infect other eroge.

The mini-games are like moving boxes to an exit (transport puzzle game like Sokoban), simple rhythm games, cleaning game (select correct apparatus and then click like mad to beat a timer), fishing, etc. You’re not forced to play them, although doing so gets you more points than leaving it on auto.

That is all I ask as long as nothing significant changes down the line which forces you to play the crappy games. I loathe reading and getting into a story only to have to deal with stopping to play some crappy mini game that would be awful by the standards of 30 years ago before I am allowed to resume. If they give me a skip button all is forgiven.

Oshigoto mode

A.I. Love: Koisuru Otome wa Kikai Shikake

Company: あかべぇそふとすりぃ (AkabeiSoft3)
Game site: アイラブ 恋する乙女はキカイ仕掛け
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
Kyouji is a scientist who had one dream: to create a robot that could help, support and snuggle up with humans. However, he was fed up with the recent trend of people being wary about the dangers of robots with AI, so he created robots with ‘hearts’ instead. As the first step towards a future where humans and robots can co-exist, he began to live together with these three androids, the domestic Lux, the curious Sphere and prototype Nect, while watching over their growth.

However, sometimes Lux would barge into the bath to wash his back and sometimes Sphere would crawl into his bed. As a scientist, he was delighted at their displays of emotion, but on the other hand, it was somewhat embarrassing and troublesome for him as a member of the opposite sex.

This is just one chapter of a fun and lively daily life between Kyouji and the girls. But surely it will become an irreplaceable moment for them.

I too would be more comfortable with robots that you can snuggle up with rather than ones that could possible take over the world. Technology has come a long way in the past few decades, but it’s still a pipe dream at this point. You’ll have to go find an actual girl instead.

I think people would fear robots less if we stopped making them into murder bots. A rogue maid that at worst would cook at you is hardly going to threaten humanity if it turns out to be an AI copy pasted from a serial killer. Lets be perfectly honest though, if you could order a sentient robo real doll designed to your exact preferences is there any reason you would refuse to buy one? I think not. I mean this actually sums up the entire aspiration of humanity to have an android maid along with robots that do everything else so we can sit down and play games all day. Put all your effort into being lazy, the most noble of all endeavors. An aspiration addressed a few games below quite well I think.

Butterfly Seeker

Company: シルキーズプラス A5和牛 (SILKY’s PLUS A5 Wagyu)
Game site: バタフライシーカー
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
The very large northern city of Shiori, shrouded in fog in the summer and blanketed in snow in the winter, has been plagued by a series of brutal psychological crimes. The police set up a unit specifically to combat abnormal psychological crimes, but it was still not enough. Recently, they’ve been turning to promising youths who work undercover as student investigators. The insect gastronomy club at Shiori Gakuen, nicknamed ‘Mushikui’, was specifically created for this purpose.

Yui could read a person’s thoughts just by observing their gestures and behaviour.
Chitose aspires to be a profiler with her excellent ability to retain key information.
Haya uses her superior physical prowess to battle criminals.
Keisuke possesses a special ability ‘butterfly seeker’ which allows him to see the indirect causes of a death just by touching the body.

Due to their special abilities, they were able to achieve some positive results. Then they received news that the mass serial killer ‘Spider’ that had terrorized the city six years ago had begun to move once more.

If you’re looking for a suspense title this month, this is it. With the story being written by Unabara Nozomu (Liar-soft games and Shinsou Noise), it’s bound to be good. In fact, it’s very similar to Shinsou Noise in that you have to choose correct key words. I’d think there wouldn’t be scenes that look out of place like in another game this month. Sure, it might be cheating for them to possess such useful powers, but with the antagonist likely in the same position, we could probably consider it to be a supernatural title instead of a straight-up mystery-suspense.

There are two things that inherently make this game retarded. First the random cheating super powers that have no business in this sort of story as they remove the core essence of what makes things tense and interesting. Secondly the silly reliance on random high school kids in an attempt to shoe horn a school setting into the already terrible plot. Rip the stupid powers out of their skulls, turn them into a crime unit working for the police as a bunch of 20 something investigators and viola it might be worth reading. I just cannot take it when what is essentially Scooby Doo is attempting to be a serious Sherlock Holmes. By resorting to silly powers to deus ex machina your way out of having to write a coherent and clever plot and then stapling such powers to a group of random school children all credibility in your writing has been tossed out the window and into the dumpster. Point being, this is trite garbage that belongs in the trash with said writing staff’s credibility.

Boku to Nurse no Kenshu Nisshi

Company: プレカノ (Prekano)
Game site: ボクと彼女の研修日誌
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
On the first day of his residency at the hospital, the first step to fulfilling his dream of becoming a doctor, Takuya met his childhood friend Mio for the first time in many years. She was now a nurse and showed him around during his busy training days.

One day, he fell down the stairs while protecting her and broke his right arm and left leg. As a result, his residency was put on hold while he was hospitalized. He was placed in Mio’s ward and she felt responsible for the accident. To cheer her up, he suggested that she could take care of him whenever she has free time, to which she readily agreed. It is the beginning of a hospital love story between a medical intern and a nurse who would go above her duties to take care of him.

Why hellooooooo nurse! It’s another single heroine low-priced offering from Prekano, so go right on ahead if she’s your type. Otherwise, just wait another couple months for the next one.

Living the dream of having a personal sexy nurse to take care of you in place of your broken fapping arm.  Or just the protagonists hallucinations while high on painkillers.

Natsuiro Ramune

Company: Carol Works
Game site: 夏色ラムネ
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
When Yuu was in elementary school, he spent three years living with his grandparents in the countryside due to family circumstances. He wasn’t comfortable with the unfamiliar surroundings at first, but he was soon able to make some friends and as a result, he also became less introverted.

He returned many years later to this town and reunited with his friends. However, they were no longer the same as when they were kids and he felt like he was now estranged to them. Feeling lonely, he stopped by the dagashi shop that they used to frequent on his way home from school. The old lady told him that she was thinking of closing the shop for good as she was getting old. He vowed to help her keep the store open and called on his old friends for help, but things would not go as smoothly as he had hoped.

I like the slightly nostalgic mood portrayed in the game, although I worry if it will be like Koisora (and many other eroge) where the common route is the best part of the game and the heroine routes (and their H scenes) are mere afterthoughts. Come to me, Misaki-mama…

Dagashi Kashi the eroge.

Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata

Company: PULLTOP
Game site: 空と海が、ふれあう彼方
Release date: March 30, 2018
Comments:
This is an all-ages title from PULLTOP. The Ogasawara Islands is designated as a natural World Heritage Site. Hiroki visited the island for the first time in four years to help with his grandmother’s shop during summer vacation. He met the beautiful blonde girl Emily on the boat ride to the island. She had run away from home to retrieve a ‘treasure which had sank into the sea’. He reacquainted with his osananajimi Chisa on the island and she told him that there was a sunken ghost ship. It is said that the treasure which Emily was looking for was aboard this sunken ship. He couldn’t leave a scuba diving novice like Emily alone and Chisa didn’t want to miss out on the fun, so they ended up searching for the treasure together.

After conquering the skies and the stars, PULLTOP turns its attention to the depths of the oceans. It should be a pretty light-hearted game with a prominent summer theme. Here’s hoping it’s better than PSG.

The whole searching for buried pirate treasure is rather pointless. What would have felt less pointless is if token blonde transfer student archetype dropped her mothers memento bracelet or something while swimming. Or ya know they have similar interests or whatever. Point being treasure is so generic and arbitrary it feels out of place. I get that it’s supposed to be about eliciting the sense of childish wonder as you go on an adventure but that just feels awkward in such a game. In other words this is really just a One Piece rip off without the pirate ship and therefore not as good.

What I wonder is how did she know the treasure was there and why she would even go when she hasn’t scuba dived before.

The pirate king said so while being beheaded.

Yes, the latter part had me wondering as well. But let us just say “Tis a silly game” and leave it at that. Any more would be harming our brain cells unnecessarily.

Zen’s Top 3 for This Month

  1. Karigurashi Ren’ai
  2. Unjou no Fairy Tale
  3. RIDDLE JOKER

Pretty good month, but ASaPro is always a must-play!

I won’t complain too much as long as there is something with aspirations of mediocrity that more or less meets such high goals.

Not a bad month but isnt the plot of A.I. Love lifted from the manga that ken akumatsu did before love hina wholesale?

    >With the story being written by Unabara Nozomu (Liar-soft games and Shinsou Noise), it’s bound to be good
Um… no? At least Shinsou Noise was an incoherent chaotic mess. Or was that sarcasm?

I like suspense stories but both this month’s attempts seem to include the usual very awkward sexual content integration 18+ games of this type are plagued with, so I’ll pass.

I’ll probably play かりぐらし恋愛 and ボクと彼女の研修日誌 . I liked 空のつくりかた so I’ll probably give 雲上のフェアリーテイル a try as well. I don’t think I have the willpower the withstand another Yuzusoft game right now, especially if it features supernatural abilities, for the exact same reason Zen mentioned : too much unnecessary effort in the wrong areas.

Generally speaking, I liked Shinsou Noise’s general concept (of using logic and reasoning to solve a mystery). It’s just that they had two critical flaws of trying to involve supernatural powers into their scenario plus that retarded conclusion that didn’t make any fucking sense and ruined the entire game for me at the end.

Can’t wait for RIDDLE JOKER and Paradise Ocean to come out, they both get released on my birthday funny enough. The pixel design on PIXEL MINT’s website is pretty cool. Thanks for the great work you guys for all these years, amazing blog that keeps me up to date.

A lot of these titles look mediocre at best, and reading Zen’s comments (though I DO take it with a grain of salt) really plummets my expectations even more. I’ve been suspending (not completely dropping; just getting sick of the same tropes over and over again) games left and right and thank god I have multiple HDDs for all these games to be installed, and I think that alone says a lot of things about all of these titles.

While I do see some titles I’d like to play, I’m probably gonna call it right now that none of them are going to get a score any higher than a 7 or an 8 from me.

By the way, Pixel Mint closed down even before the release of their game. What a story!
