August 2013 Eroge Releases

All the eroge companies seem to be focusing on their Comiket merchandise as there’s not many games this month. It’s an all-ages game, but propeller’s Negai no Kakera to Hakugin no Agreement should be an exciting action-packed read. Liar-soft’s Ourai no N’gha-Kthun: Shining Night and Minato Carnival’s Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road are sure to please fans of the series. Other than those, there’s just some games about tentacles, bladder control, voyeurism and cosplay 4P.

A selection so poor I could piss on it. Maybe a bad decision as apparently that would get some people all hot and bothered, and maybe summoned by a loli to another world hoping I would piss on her too. Maybe it is just because of the complete drought of sanity this month, but it has been awhile since I have seen some of the horrible and insane ideas for games manage to find a slow enough month to make it into the list that usually tries to ignore worthless nukige.

Innocent Bullet -the false world-

This is the debut title by CINEMATOGRAPH. In 2013, with the appearance of a next-generation terrorism threat known as ‘living weapons’, the myth that Japan was safe had been shattered. So too had Yuuji’s peaceful life, as he encountered death traps beyond reason. In the face of death, a group of gun-toting girls appeared before him, telling him that if he refused to accept death as fate, then they would protect him. After that, he learned about the other side of the world, the terrorism attacks, the girls’ reasons for fighting and their special abilities. Soon he decided to fight alongside them.

The scenario is written by Kurashiki Tatsuya, who worked on light’s Vermilion, Zero Infinity and upcoming ElectroArms titles. If I had to choose between girls with guns and girls with magical abilities, I’d go with the latter. Never cared much for war settings, but if it’s done right like in GunKnight Girl, then it might turn out alright. They promise a cinematographic serious story, so let’s see if they deliver one that is somewhat believable.

Magical girls using guns. Just because they are not using wands does not make the concept any different nor any more appealing. It is simply impossible to make a story work around this and still be enjoyable in a sensible way. Of course if one doesn’t care about such things it should be fine, but really now the theme allows so many better ways to deal with such a title that have been ignored for the worst type of layout and story imaginable.

Ourai no N’gha-Kthun: Shining Night

This is the fandisk for Liar-soft’s 2012 steampunk title Ourai no N’gha-Kthun. It takes place a year later in Marseille Floating Academia and follows an omnibus format with over 100 episodes selectable from a map system. More Tesla and Neon for all.

Have yet to read the primary game as I still have a difficult time trusting Liar-soft despite how appealing a lot of their concepts are. Still if this game deserved a fandisk in their eyes it may have been better written than most of their games and so worth a look.

Negai no Kakera to Hakugin no Agreement

This is an all-ages title, written by Bloodlink light novel writer Yamashita Takashi. There are humanoid ‘puppets’ in the world who blend into society and manipulate history. However, no one knows where they come from nor who controls them. Mina is a normal first-year schoolgirl who often visits the doll museum to view a beautiful doll Ruka. One day, her world changed when she gained the ability to see the ‘puppets’ that mingled among humans. She gained it from an agreement with Ruka, a ‘mima’ who actually controlled the future of the world, along with the power to destroy the ‘puppets’.

Mina was conscripted into the assassin team tasked to destroy the hidden ‘puppets’. She didn’t want such outrageous things to interfere with her normal school life, but soon the ‘puppets’ made their appearance in her life. The other members of the group were the genius grade schooler Jessica, the bewitching Chinese beauty Leilin, and fellow high school student Riko. The bonds between the members deepened as they fought together against the ‘puppets’. After the mysterious Sayo appears and Mina’s best friend Makoto was dragged in as well, the situation takes a sudden turn. Has this become a battle between the puppets and humans? Mina wonders about her fate as she continues to battle them.

propeller’s latest all-ages game has a female protagonist, but the core is still the same. Expect to see a lot of action scenes. Can’t say it’s really my type of game, but the OP is pretty good. There’s yuri undertones, but you know that’s not gonna go anywhere being all-ages…

Generally speaking this is a pretty boring idea to make a game on, it has a very superficial and “Why should I care?” type of feel to it. With this title I can only imagine they simply did not have much direction on where to go with the plot as their setting, story, and characters are all a haphazard mess. As much as I enjoyed Propeller’s older games lately they leave a lot to be desired.

Uke Shokushu

Michio was born as a tentacle monster, but he rejected his own identity and decided to live as a human. However, with his osananajimi trying to take full advantage of his lewd beast potential and his mother pressing him to accept his true form, his daily life is anything but boring!

The protagonist is a meek tentacle guy who gets dominated (including his imouto who can’t get excited from anything but tentacles). It’s a pretty ridiculous premise. There’s nothing more to say about this game, except that your classmate is a flying spaghetti monster. That’s some spicy meatballs.

I seem to recall something similar from awhile ago about a tentacle laden protagonist of a different color. I suppose there is a market for people who wish they were born as some kind of tentacle monster so they could star in their very own hentai movies.

Tsukumono? That tentacle had a mind of its own altogether.

Close enough, a tentacles a tentacle, we know where they are going to end up one way or another.

Love&Piss ~Shoujo no Gaman ga Sekai o Sukuu~

In this world, your magic power increases by holding your pee. Yurika is a magician who severely lacks pee and decided to summon a guy who is able to store a lot of it so that he can supply her with it through a special ceremony (sexual intercourse) and allow her to pass the make-up wizard test. Yoshifumi was the chosen one and was forced to help her out since he couldn’t return to his own world until she becomes a wizard. Also, his osananajimi Yumari was also brought to this world at the same time, and for some reason she is also taking the wizard test with Yurika.

SAY NO TO OSHIKKO.

Ok this is absurd I am pretty sure everyone gets that from a glance, all is well there. Personally though I wonder about what the people who made this game were thinking. What train of thought could possibly lead to them thinking this was not only a good idea to but to be willing to devote their time and resources to create it. Such a fanatical devotion to pee play warms my heart as I can only imagine the upstanding and respectable people who made this game as well as the like minded individuals who await its release with great anticipation.

It was a beautiful spring afternoon, and the melodies from the music room and the shouts from the athletic clubs filled the air. Each club has recruited their new members, and everybody was excited for the upcoming school year. In particular, the boys in the culture department were devising a (stupid) plot to make it mandatory for all girl members to wear sukumizu. Of course, all the girls were vehemently against the idea and chased all the guys out. The remaining boy was Haruchika, who was planning to join the tiny handicraft club. Thus begins his lively days in the handicraft club surrounded by girls.

It’s HOOKSOFT, so you know it’ll be your typical love comedy in a school setting. The theme for this game is habit-forming happiness. Not sure exactly what that means, but there’s cute girls, so that’s all that matters. In particular, I like the carefree kouhai Tsubasa. The ‘cross viewing’ system is back, along with the PIT (mail and BBS) system from Strawberry Nauts.

Not much for or against the game, it is very basic lacking any major plot device to drive the course of the story or stand out beyond the high school setting. Whether this is good or bad comes down to the writing itself, and how well the silly comedy is worked into the plot of the game. Either way, the only real reason to bother is if you want something devoid of story or thinking to read in a relaxed manner. Else if more depth to characters, their development amidst the setting and story are important than probably not the best choice for anyone.

Aozora Stripe

Shinya is working as a cook-in-training. One day, his mentor and employer Daigo told him that his old acquaintance Kyouko badly needed help at her restaurant since she was injured. Daigo sent him to save the restaurant Marine House Aqua and informed him that it would serve as the final test of his training. Shinya was elated that this moment of his dreams had finally arrived. He struggled in his new position, but the girls in the restaurant all try to help him out. His relationships with them grow closer and his summer love story has begun.

Illustrator Piromizu and scenario writers Tamasawa Tsubura and Raimu Minto return from Astronauts Spica’s previous title Erect!, which had decent reviews. I love cafe settings with lots of cute girls. There should be plenty of ecchi scenes with waitress outfits and swimsuits. The twins Sakura and Sumire are mine! All mine! Hau~ omochikaeri~!

The plot is somewhat standard for these types of games, find someway to get the protagonist to work there, comedy and ero ensues, the end. Beyond this simple guideline for how to make one of these games there is not much left aside the art and hopefully amusing comedy, I don’t have high expectations for much else sadly.

Imouto Kansatsu chu!

This is the first title by Sagittarius. One day, Takehito’s imouto Aoi broke his precious camera. However, she did not own up to the mistake one bit. While leafing through a camera catalogue still angry at her actions, he noticed a tiny camera which could be used for spying. He remembered that there was a crack in the wall of his closet and it was indeed still there when he checked it. Looking into Aoi’s room, he saw Aoi on the bed reading an ecchi magazine. He was surprised to see this side of her and he had a bright idea: if he continues to spy on her and find out her weakness, then he might be able to release his grudge over her breaking his camera.

This game isn’t much different from ALL-TiMe’s Imouto ga Boku o Neratteru. In fact, it’s by the same writer (Sunaga Naruhito) and artist (Sakura Rio). The only thing that’s different is the maker they’re releasing under. I don’t have high hopes for this one.

Micchi is just jealous and wishes to spy on a little sister of his own.

I wouldn’t need to spy, I’d already be in her room. Teaching her this and that. Ya know, life counselling.

And we all know how that would turn out, Micchi in jail, sister trauma that results in her eventually turning to prostitution, you know as it should be.

Nyan Cafe Macchiato ~Neko ga Iru Cafe no Ecchi Jijou~

Kouya’s life is full of misfortune. Every company he works for ends up going bankrupt and his apartment went up in flames. Now he’s a lecturer-in-training at Kaminekosaka Gakuen and also helps out at his grandfather’s neko cafe Nekotama-ya, which is staffed by three bishoujos: the energetic Mike, the timid Ameri and the ojousama Persia. All three of them had feelings for him, and due to his misfortune, they all confessed to him at the same time. He didn’t want to lose this lucky chance and they all ended up spending the night together as a foursome. The next morning was the beginning of a new relationship between the four of the them, with all three girls being his lover at the same time!

It’s cute, got cats and nekomimi girls. A harem-focused nukige is just what this month needs.

I have to disagree about any month ever needing this but I suppose at least they are not magical girls so I’ll take what I can get.

Girls be Ambitious!

Kaidou Gakuen was located at the foot of a mountain and it was split into two by a huge wall. One was a celebrity school for children from the upper classes, while the other was a school for the common people. It was forbidden for the students from each school to intermingle with the other. Haruto attended the common school and planned to sneak into the celebrity school to get a glimpse of the hated upper class students. However, he got lost in the darkness of the night. Following a light, he came upon a botanical garden and had a fateful meeting with a girl from the upper class. Can one’s life be determined alone by where they were born and what titles they have?

They really made the upper class people elitist snobs, so it’s clear what side the writers want you to be cheering for. There’s also an H trial which offers hairstyle and clothing choices for all heroines. Basically this is one of those ‘normal guy who ends up with someone outside of his class since love prevails over all’ stories. Don’t see why he wants to do so, as Sena is with him already. Usually the best girl is the one that’s by your side from the start (see: imouto).

So another guy meets girl beyond his station, aww how sweet, H scenes ensue, the end game eh? Hopefully the game goes beyond focusing on nothing but H content to develop something akin to an actual story but its not like trials are ever an honest representation of what an entire game will be like so it is still possible though unlikely. Having a girl stuck by your side from the start be they little sister or childhood friend is the reason protagonists try so hard to get away from them and wind up falling for the first mysterious transfer student that falls in their lap.

It’s a sad sad world.

Hoshi no Ne Sanctuary

Even in a world where science has vastly progressed, people still wish upon shooting stars. Masato was in danger of dropping out of school, but his wish may have come true. Intra-class and intra-year teams were created for a special exam and if he makes it out on top, then he would be able to stay in the school. Moreover, his teammates were all bishoujos.

However, all of them have personalities which make them unsuited to teamwork. Hisui doesn’t like interacting with others, Yomi has a sharp tongue, while Ria is a hopeless bracon. He even has the ojousama Serina proclaiming herself as his rival. Even though great difficulties lie ahead of him, he vows not to give up. It is up to him to make this peculiar team work as one!

Marmalade’s previous game, Koiiro Marriage, had a much better reception than their past ones. One of the scenario writers, Yoshikawa Yoshie, makes a return to this title. The notion of wishing seems to only serve to explain the setting, as the core is one of love, friendship and all the basics of a school-based love comedy. This is one of the more ‘normal’ games for this month, and barring any major screw-ups, a solid pick for such a weak selection.

Ah yes make a wish to not be a failure of a human being only to be granted a harem designed to carry your worthless bum butt through life. Nothing could be so romantic as wishes that come true eh? I am pretty sick of writers forcing characters together by manipulating the setting in a way that forces the issue so they can avoid having to actually write anything entertaining or sensible. Sure that may not be the focus and games may end up being ok afterwards but that is a rare case to say the least. Forget the teams or anything else they could have simply learned of each other through makeup tests and came to help each other out. Would be easy to apply a bit of variance between the heroines as well within the bounds of cookie cutter designs everyone seems to use these days. For example a typical shy girl missing school due to being ill or weak or being shot in the face so actually having had a reason to be in a hospital and wear and eyepatch beyond anemia and slight iris discoloration. Throw in the usual energetic idiot capable of making a brick seem like a good idea for a friend, and maybe the stereotypical aloof tsundere who is there because she forgot to put a name on her test or some such ditzy and clumsy reason people find cute for and endearing because of the contrast for god knows what reason. Just something where they actually meet for once and are not just thrown in a literary blender in the hopes the resulting watered down sludge of mediocrity is good enough to bait poor unfortunate souls into drinking it. All the while they sit back count their money and laugh at the silly readers enduring a self inflicted punishment game they paid for.

Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road

This is the fandisk for Tsujidou-san Junai Road. In addition to the after stories for the 3 main heroines, it will add routes for the most popular subheroines, Azusa and Yoiko. Hiroshi’s quite the man, being able to deal with so many delinquents…

More fandisk action hurrah. The game itself was neither terrible nor great, while I don’t feel it was worth a fandisk I figured they were setting up the possibility of one by withholding some of the potential heroine characters, a decision I feel that is becoming all too common and downright annoying these days.
