March 2012 Eroge Releases

March 1, 2012 at 12:01 am 22 comments

The moe and romance levels are high this month with YuzuSoft’s DRACU-RIOT! and Rose Liese’s Strawberry Feels. If you’re in the mood for some action and RPG, check out GIGA’s Material Brave or TENCO’s Eiyuu☆Senki, where major world figures are now bishoujos for your taking à la Koihime. The Ruitomo staff from Akatsuki Works has put together an entertaining chuunibyou title in ‘&’. There’s even a yuri game from Liar-soft: Okujou no Yurirei-san. With such a wide variety of titles this month, there is sure to be something for everyone.

After an easy month it just figures March would be a much larger release, sadly I will likely be unable to make any time for eroge this month due to the imminent release of Mass Effect 3 set to absorb all my free time into a black hole of gaming. Luckily there are no must play games for me included in this month and while there are perhaps five games with the potential to be worth playing the majority of releases this month are nothing special to say the least. Since most of the games are set to cater to very specific tastes you should know almost immediately whether they apply to you or not, making this a decent month for those players whom fall under the targeted demographics.

Princess X FD ~Iinazuke wa Owaranai!?~

Company: Poison@Berry
Game site: プリンセスXFD ~許嫁は終わらない!?~
Release date: March 2, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from February. This Princess X fandisk contains 12 short stories, showcasing all the non-human girls that you’ve come to love… maybe a bit too much. Not really my cup of tea; I think I’m content with normal girls.

Oh man, that green Octo-lion on the cover is hot. Other than that not sure why I should care about a game that tries to appeal by throwing a bunch of characters together to cover a specific demographic.

Wow, I didn’t even notice that. You just like green things, don’t you?

Green things are obviously superior to blue or salmon ones.

Company: エール (Aile)
Game site: Friends
Release date: March 23, 2012
Hashirajima Gakuen is a historic girls’ school which turned co-ed due to the declining birthrate. However, the school remained overwhelmingly female. Kei is a boy who transferred into the school and started living at the Saiunryou dormitory for out-of-towners and students with special circumstances. The girls at the dormitory had been preparing for a cute new kouhai to join them and were shocked to find out that the new resident was a boy.

Anything with sparkles warrants my attention. While Aile’s previous title relations wasn’t to my liking, it’s worth noting that the scenario writers have been replaced for this title, so maybe it’ll be better this time around. The polite kouhai Mio and mischievous Erika (voiced by Sakaki Runa, aka ToHeart2‘s Maaryan) are my fav heroines. Yui reminds me a lot of Mashifoni‘s Airi (which is a bit confusing since she was voiced by Gogyou Nazuna, who is voicing Mio in this game under Kitami Rikka), while her shinyuu Naomi is yet-another-Hina (this is a good thing). Definitely gonna check this out!

While I did find Relations x Sister to be a pretty average game in most respects I enjoyed the clean style of the artist despite the sparkles. This time around although they changed writers there is much to be said about once again choosing a rather lackluster plot and setting. Should the story end up being far better than average with wonderful character development the enjoyment will remain marred by the lack of inventiveness elsewhere. No matter how good this game could be it will still end up being average at best, maybe well liked for a month or two before ultimately being forgotten as people move on to newer games. In addition I think the character designs are rather poor this time around in comparison to their last game, likely chosen to attempt as much popularity as possible instead of balancing things well.

I don’t mind playing a game that might be forgotten in a few months if I enjoy the time playing it. Then it’s time well spent.

I mean that more from the perspective of the company, they would want to leave a lasting impression to make the most money from the game. Obviously as long as the reader enjoys it it is all good. Although I do feel as that while very standard Relations is likely to have been a better game than this one.

That’s just cuz you’re not one who likes Friends.

Material Brave

Company: 戯画 (GIGA)
Game site: マテリアルブレイブ
Release date: March 23, 2012
Kamioki-jima is an island close to Japan which was recently formed due to volcanic activity and is home to one of the rarest minerals, enigmatite. Living beings which fuse with enigmatite gain great powers. Such humans are known as ‘unleashed’, while animals and plants are known as ‘neoplasm’ (NP). To research the hidden powers behind enigmatite, the island was designated a special area with a school to train the unleashed, called the ‘Unleashed Nursery’.

Ayumu is a rare male unleashed who has a special ability, ‘engage’, which boosts the powers of his female partner. However, to activate his power, there must be an exchange of bodily fluids. The school president pairs him up with the most powerful student, Kanae, who always maintained her distance from him. One day, the island was attacked by NPs and in order to defeat them, they activated his ‘engage’ ability with a kiss.

This title is done by TEAM BALDRHEAD and features a mix of ADV, RPG and ACT. In the RPG part, the characters are all depicted with cute chibi characters and you can wander about talking to people, doing quests or defeating neoplasms. The enigmatite that you collect from your explorations can be used to raise you and the heroines’ stats on the engage board.

The trial was very fun! I feel like I can be quite addicted to the game, trying to explore all the areas, finding rare items, assigning engage points and of course having a good time with my partner. My only concern is that the battle part sometimes lags a bit when you’re trying to do a combo. Maybe it’s an issue of comp specs… could be better if using a controller.

At first glance, the scenario doesn’t seem to be too interesting – seems more like a setup for the RPG/ACT system, and of course for the H scenes (convenient side-effects). But maybe there’ll be some great revelation about enigmatite and the island. Lots of cute heroines here, although I wonder why the osananajimi Ena isn’t one. I’d also take Rin if she wasn’t already taken by Kouichirou. Actually, I’ll duel him for her – I have a bigger sword! But wait… Mashiro is so cute!! She didn’t show up or say much in the trial, but the little that she did endeared her to me! Hau omochikaeri~!

Here is the sort of game that exemplifies the reason RPG eroge are worthless in my opinion. The lazy creators decided not to bother thinking up a reasonable scenario or even gameplay beyond something that could be found for free with flash games and instead focus on building the entire game around excuses for H scenes.

Action part

Mizu no Miyako no Patisserie

Company: すたじおちゃお (Studio Ciao)
Game site: 水の都の洋菓子店(パティスリー)
Release date: March 23, 2012
This is the first title by Studio Ciao. Jun was a pâtissier who opened a sweets shop L’Oiseau Bleu in his hometown, the water capital. The future looked bright with a dependable staff and positive reviews, but there was one obstacle which he could not overcome. The memory of the sweets created by the late pâtissier Koutarou, which were said to bring happiness, still lingered on the minds of the town’s citizens.

One day, Koutarou’s daughter Mika, who worked at L’Oiseau Bleu since it was in the same building of her father’s shop Abeille, revealed to him the secret behind the candy: they were enchanted with a magic which brought happiness to people. She also told him that she was a witch and that she could use some of her father’s magic.

I’m not sure if they wanted this game to be about sweets or magic. The art’s not bad, but other than that, nothing stuck out in my mind. I guess the fact that Mika’s magic doesn’t work properly if she eats anything chocolate-related coupled with Jun’s super chocolate skills will drive the plot. It just felt that the characters were a bit shallow, other than subchara Kae who was annoying as hell. Well, I think it’ll be better than Houkago Kitchen, but I guess that’s not saying much…

Why struggle to improve yourself and your products when you can just cast a spell on it and cheat, right? At least we know there won’t be any real character development, especially not for our protagonist as there is a cheap win button handy to solve all the problems that may potentially plague himself and the others around him. I suppose in order to escape the boring and ill conceived plot our protagonist has a few stereotypical girls freshly spawned from the standard eroge cookie cutter to chase after, hopefully providing some modicum of entertainment to an unfortunate reader.

To be fair, he didn’t take advantage of it and was a bit disappointed that Koutarou had used magic. It was mainly Mika who wanted to use it. I guess you can say it runs in the family.

Maybe but you know, especially on her route he will probably give in in order to overcome some silly “problem”.

Sora to Kumo to Kimi no Koi

Company: クライン (KLEIN)
Game site: 青空(そら)と雲と彼女(きみ)の恋
Release date: March 23, 2012 Delayed to May 25, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from February. A few days into the new school year, Takayuki gazed at the clouds in the sky from his favourite spot on the roof and drifted off to sleep. When he woke up, he noticed a boy about to confess to a girl. Unable to leave, he ended up watching as the boy was quickly turned down by the girls, who he recognized as the new transfer student known as the ‘one with the steel skirt’ since no one has been able to win her love. However, she turned to him and kissed him to his utmost surprise.

A seemingly normal school love story, coming from KLEIN. And of course there’s the requisite imouto in Kurumi to tempt me. However, I don’t have high hopes for this. It’s KLEIN after all.

One day a random and unremarkable boy happened to be at some random location and by sheer chance ends up being confessed/kissed/raped by the most sought after girl in his tiny little school. Of course these actions lead to jealousy in the one or two girls who secretly had feelings for our unremarkable protagonist and acts as a catalyst to bring in more random females attracted to his protagonist pheromones. Either that or he is the only person in the world to get a bottle of Axe that works as advertised.

I think eroge protagonists are on to something….

Whatever they are on, I want some.

Sousouki Reginald

Company: ocelot
Game site: 葬送鬼レギナルト
Release date: March 23, 2012
This all-ages kinetic novel by ocelot has ties to the Polyphonica series with appearances by Corticarte and Phoron. Black shadows lurk in the smog-filled city of Fatedelhi. They are known as pagans (ghosts), beings who were not able to be reborn and remain on Earth without a soul. Reginald Urbane is a vampire who joined the pagan-hunting group Twanbach after meeting two mysterious twins Vanessa and Veronica.

Vampires and guns. I guess the difference this time around is that it’s not the vampires that are the hunted. But it’s still a vampire game. Not really my type, but I guess it’d appeal to those that followed the Polyphonica series or like action/chuuni titles.

Well first of all I hope this fares better than Ocelot’s last foray beyond the Polyphonica series, one can only assume that since this game is halfway between Polyphonica and a completely new series there may be some hope. In a way this series almost feels as though they are trying to give the twins from Polyphonica some heroine time without sacrificing Phoron, time will tell there though. Oddly enough it seems vampire games always come out together, usually a month with several vampire titles. Given the nature of Ocelot games I am inclined to reserve judgment on the value until the game itself is released however, since to be fair they have to put more effort into story than most of the half assed carbon copy games we see nowadays, not being able to fall back on cheap H scenes and cute “Moe” characters.

Koimekuri Clover

Game site: 恋めくりクローバー
Release date: March 23, 2012 Delayed to March 30, 2012
This is the debut title by CLIP☆CRAFT. Arata returned to his hometown due to his father’s work and was reunited with his three osananajimis after 10 years apart. They were the cheerful and innocent Yuuka, the reliable ‘onee-san’ Ayami and the once-small Mikana who had now grown to be very beautiful. Adding another osananajimi Yuusuke and his moodmaker imouto Mahiru, his school life is full of enjoyment like in the past. Then they received a strange e-mail inviting them to play a game. If they did not accept it, they will lose something precious.

The game that they have to play is basically solving riddles, except you as the player don’t really do it as the game just guides you through it. I think this kinda defeats the purpose. Also, the scene selections are off a puzzle board and you need to have an adjacent piece in order to open up a scene. Completing the puzzle increases the friendship and love meter for the heroines and can also open up scenes for subcharacters. I haven’t seen anything like it before, but yet it’s so underwhelming. The art is reminiscent of games from the 90s, but what really sticks in my mind is the resemblance to Amagami. Why? Because the imouto Mahiru is almost exactly like Miya. She’s bracon, playful, cat-like, goes nishishi, likes niku-dango and calls him onii. And she’s always with 2 kouhais, Mikana and Kozue. I think I might try it out just for those three…

A month full of half assed childhood friend stories. Here we have the typical separated by ten years theme times five or however many there are combined with an extremely forcible plot to draw them together. It is like the creators thought Phi Brain was a good idea so made an eroge out of it with childhood friends as those are the easiest to introduce while getting down to some lazy puzzle action catering to those who want to feel accomplished when reaching their H scenes without trying too hard lest they need to think about more than contracting a few muscles in their arms repeatedly.

Company: Athena
Game site: AngelGuard
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from January. This is the first title by Athena. Lisa’s father is the chairman of the military conglomerate ‘General Technics Group’, which plans to build an oil pipeline in central Asia with the backing of the U.S. government. However, they are opposed by the rival Russian financial group ‘Arsenary’ which will use any means to secure the deal. Ryou is an agent of the private military company ‘GMSS’ who is designated to protect Lisa with the help of fellow agent Reina. At the client’s request, he has to do this while undercover as a teacher at Lisa’s school Seika Gakuen.

Oil is serious business. The plot reminds me of AXL’s Koitate, so I wonder if there are bad ends where he fails his mission. And why is Russia usually casted in a negative light? It brought us many great bishoujos, like Kud, Katherine and of course, Puuchin.

Far too grandiose a story for a high school romance drama eroge. If they changed the setting and he was her bodyguard while traveling and taking care of business and overseeing the construction of the pipeline this may have made a lot more sense. However forcing their story to fit in a high school environment detracts from the merits of this type of game, turning what could have been an interesting story that explores more varied settings and encounters into yet another high school based game with serious and or action overtones. I do enjoy a good bodyguard story, even more so when it involves a protagonist who is potentially competent so given that this month is rather devoid of anything special I think this may be the best choice of the month for something more than just high school drama.

Russia has been symbolic as an aggressor since the propaganda of the cold war, especially as Japan had been used as a bulwark for the west against communism in Asia post WW2. Add in the corruption of the government and mafia ties that spread out over the world from Russia as well as being the only non western state with comparable technology they make an excellent antagonist for stories set in western nations.

Unfortunately (for you), most stories will end up with high school elements, as that’s what sells…

I just happen to find it ironic that for games supposedly 18+ they focus on high schools almost exclusively. I don’t mind it when the setting fits, but there is no need to force a high school into every single plot regardless of whether or not it matches the story or setting.

Company: ゆずソフト (YuzuSoft)
Game site: DRACU-RIOT!(ドラクリオット)
Release date: March 30, 2012
Yuuto accompanies his friend to the island city Aqua Eden, where gambling and the sex industry are legal, not knowing that his friend’s true purpose for the visit was to lose his virginity. It so happened that Yuuto witnessed an abduction and he stepped in to help… and ended up becoming a vampire! However as a vampire, he could no longer leave Aqua Eden. So he ended up attending a school for vampires, and it appeared that vampires do not have the same way of thinking as humans do.

Once again, the OP is animated with a nice song. With YuzuSoft, you know that it’ll be a good game. Now the question is: will it be a great game? At least I know this won’t be yet another emo or chuuni vampire game, but nothing really perks my interest other than Azusa. That being said, I might play this just for Azusa. She needs some attention since the rest of you perverts are drooling over Elina, making her pout. Wait, a pouting Azusa is fine too. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Ah YuzuSoft, a company that loves to explore the potential of including elements beyond simple high school romance and yet never quite manages to bring out the true merit of their chosen theme. Typically their games revolve around a charage format set in a high school where the protagonist is drawn into a world of events that follows the chosen theme against his will. Perhaps one or two routes actually include the theme in a way that is relevant to the development of the protagonist and or heroine during, while the rest only briefly touch on it just enough to act as a reminder of the setting. This half and half attitude has worked well in the past for YuzuSoft though it also prevents their games from rising above better than average into the realm of truly memorable games. If you happen to be one of the crazed emo kid fans of new age vampires popularized by Anne Rice and Twilight you probably won’t find a whole lot to enjoy here. On the other hand if you simply want a solid game with standard progression and something a little bit more than the usual high school romance YuzuSoft games are probably just what you are looking for.

Fortuna Rhapsody

Company: Symphony
Game site: Fortuna Rhapsody
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to May 25, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from February. In the town of Hazama-chou, legends about a goddess have been passed down through generations and there was a shrine dedicated to her. Returning home one night, Kouhei saw a winged girl descend from the sky at the seaside. It was late and she seemed to have taken a liking to him, so he brought her to his osananajimi Kiyo’s house. Later he found out that the girl Fey had lost her memories and he ended up taking care of her. Even though she didn’t appear to be from this world, she was readily accepted by everyone and joined him at his school.

Remember what happened with the previous game by Symphony? Yeah. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up coming out next year. A long wait for your dokidoki mafumafu goddess loving.

Nothing like a walking, talking, winged H scene falling in your lap to start off a story. Of course just to make it a little less random there has to be the inclusion of a legend to lend credibility to something few could suspend disbelief for. Next turn her into a baby bird that imprints onto our strangely lucky protagonist so he ends up stuck with her to get things moving without putting in any sort of creative effort. Copy the standard plots and scenes that have been successful in previous eroge and let the artwork do the rest. Here we have something that might as well be written by a high school drop out taking eroge 101. While there may be nothing horribly wrong with the game there is absolutely nothing here worth the investment of time and money unless you absolutely must have wings or the word goddess to even consider playing a game.

Company: ミニヨン (Mignonne)
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from October. This is the debut title for Mignonne. Itsuki occasionally has dreams about a lover from his past life, Suou-hime. One morning in homeroom, a new transfer student named Rin who looks just like her appeared in front of his very eyes and he embraced her, happy that he finally met her again. “What are you suddenly hugging me for… What’s wrong with you?” Well, it’s natural that he would get hit after that doing that to someone who he met for the first time. However, that isn’t what shocked him the most. It was that the cute Suou-hime that he knew was now a tomboy. Meanwhile, her twin older sister Yui, his osananajimi Kuu and the rest of the class watched dumbfoundedly.

I’m pretty sure they’ll end up together in the end, all raburabu. Quite surprised that they announced the new release date a mere 3 weeks before…

I wonder which game mignon got his past life from, there are plenty of choices after all. As far as his current life this is about as standard as eroge setups come, a dangerous choice for a first attempt at a game, unless the writing is amazing, this is likely to be a failure, the competition is too fierce for a new company to not stand out in some way that attracts people other than die hard fans of the particular setup they have chosen. Since it is not my concern however I will take a look at the game when it is released to see what mignon is capable of, since though it may be standard there is also nothing that stands out as immediately bad or sub par save some minor artwork issues.

Company: メテオ (Meteor)
Game site: Princess-Style
Release date: March 30, 2012
New release date after being pushed back from February. Madoka’s family were descendants from the nobles, but they have fallen on hard times. However, due to his father’s financial successes, they’ve regained some of their wealth. His old-fashioned father was strict about speech and appearances and arranged his transfer to the prestigious Ookusu Gakuin to help him become a proper man. On his way to the dorms on the first day, he came upon a beautiful girl in the school’s courtyard, who looked like a princess straight out from a children’s book. While he was entranced by her beauty, she suddenly opened her eyes, looked at him and let out a scream, causing him to run away startled.

When he reached the boys’ dormitory, he found the same girl from before, Orfina, in his room. She is the princess from a small Northern European country who came to study at the school. However, she refused to live at the embassy and snuck into an empty room (which was now his) with her servant Kanon. Even though it was against the rules, she was determined to stay there and ends up taking over most of his room. Thus began his strange co-living with a proud princess. Over time, he became closer to her. Madoka had a difficult time adjusting to the high culture at the school. There is a group known as the Reijinkai where those in the nobility gather. They invited Orfina to join them, but were turned down. After some commotion, he ended up creating the Shakoubu with Orfina to oppose the Reijinkai. Which group would be able to gather more members?

I’d gladly have a cute princess living with me; it would’ve made school a lot more fun. However, I don’t really understand why they had to introduce the ‘club vs club’ aspect when there’s already so many plot devices at their disposal. Meteor’s games are more about character than story (see: Yaya) and this seems to be the same as usual for them. Ayame is really cute (and a double A!).

This game feels like a twisted combination of Duelist x Engage and Princess Lover with some KoiChoco thrown in for good measure. Not the best combination by any stretch and I can only question why they bothered to include so many plot devices in a story that is devoid of well.. story. The entire club battle theme would have been best used on the route of a specific heroine or heroines rather than as a general story device while the whole princess in his room thing is just plain boring with how the writers force that situation to bring the characters together. Perhaps had the creators been bothered to take the time to develop the setting and story better they could have given the characters in this character based game a background that brings out their charms. Instead we get a trite and cliche charage that has no value in terms of originality or artwork, sure if you enjoy reading the same stories about the same characters in the same situations this may not be so bad. I for one feel that this is yet another game to add to the pile of forgotten games that could have been had the creators bothered to take five extra minutes to brainstorm and flesh out the design and story of their game.

Strawberry Feels

Company: Rose Liese
Game site: Strawberry Feels~ストロベリー・フィールズ~
Release date: March 30, 2012
This is the debut title by Rose Liese. Natsuki attends Ryoutou Gakuen, the lone school on the distant island of Harumi-jima where students are free to attend at their leisure. He mainly goes every day to chat with his classmates. His class is full of students with special abilities and is watched over by Mayuki, who he lived with since he was small and is like an older sister or mother to him. Also around him are his boyish osananajimi Kotori, his kouhai Aoi who is quite attached to him, and the somewhat unsocial genius Kanna.  Five people with five different viewpoints of love and so begins this romantic tale during his last spring at the school. Love is like a strawberry, sweet but also slightly sour.

Great seiyuu lineup, but the scenario writer is Moribayashi Akira, who did Shuffle! Love Rainbow and Shuffle! Essence+. Indeed, the trial was a chore to get through with uninspired dialogue and peculiar pacing. With flashbacks, fighting spirits and standard romance fare, I’m not sure what direction they want the story to take. I wish there was more of Aoi since she was one of the lone bright points. She’s actually Natsuki’s best friend Yuuichi’s twin imouto, but she calls him nii-sama and has frequent delusions à la Sana. And she’s voiced by Aoba Ringo. Who’s the last imouto chara she voiced? That’s right, Hina.

If this is the best they can do this company won’t last very long. Fairly obvious that they have no real direction with this story and are simply trying to include as many plot elements as possible without concern as to how they will all fit together. On top of it all they throw together a boring cast of heroines to choose from leaving the entire experience lacking appeal. Yet another game made with a quick buck in mind, which is not necessarily a bad thing as it is a business, but when that becomes your focus you mistake the ends for the means and are far more likely to fail.

What do you mean? There’s a subchar that looks oddly like Ayumu. Interested now?

About as interested as I am in hobomoto.

‘&’ -Sora no Mukou de Sakimasu You ni-

Company: 暁WORKS (Akatsuki Works)
Game site: ‘&’-空の向こうで咲きますように-
Release date: March 30, 2012
On a summer night, a bunch of kids ventured out by themselves on a big adventure. Not just around the city, but into the mountains… no, to the other side of the mountain! Reaching a clearing, the self-proclaimed ‘Kaerangers’ saw two beautiful moons in the sky. That was the last time they would explore together as they all went their separate ways.

Eight years later, Kou looked up at the night sky and once again saw the two moons. No one else seemed to be able to see them. Searching for an explanation, he returned to his hometown and reunited with his childhood friends who had all came back for the same reason. But eight years is a long time and some of them weren’t as close as they used to be.

They gathered underneath a strange tree that they remembered from the past and a magical glow enveloped them. Soon after, each of them received a magical item. Kou’s item, ‘Grace Wonder’, allowed him to grant someone else’s wish. However, one day it was stolen from him and he vowed to get it back to prevent it from being used improperly. And so their new adventure begins…

Let’s all go exploring, uhaha! From the staff that worked on Ruitomo& is very much a kid story at heart. It’s extremely chuuni, with random names given to their items, the items having random abilities and full animation when they are used (which you can see in the OP). The system also allows you to ‘level up’ as you complete certain achievements. I particularly like how all the scenes are listed (with previews and a summary) so you can easily navigate through on subsequent playthroughs.

I think it’ll just be a lighthearted affair, with my only questions being about the cafe and the intentions of that annoying trap Juri. I also wonder how Seira will fit into the story considering she’s not part of the original group. The Uhaha girl (Urara) is voiced by Agumi Oto and Riko is voiced by Anzu Mitsu (HGB‘s Koharu), so of course I’m definitely interested. The three sisters (Riko, Rino, Rimi) are all so cute! I wanna take them all home! Uhahah, uhaha!

Far too childish for me personally with all the silly little wishes makes it feel like a game designed around My Little Pony. Aside from my personal distaste for this time of story however the design feels vaguely reminiscent of something along the lines of Kisaragi Gold Stars, simply trading a wish for an item. Throw in the central nature of the protagonist and his ability to grant others wishes along with the childish adventure set on recovering the lost object as a means of bringing the characters together and giving the protagonist purpose and there is nothing new here. Likely this game can only appeal to those who only care about cute characters with no regard for the story or even the simply how and whys that by nature revolve around the characters and settings. In other words Micchi and those that agree with Micchi’s line of thought would find something worth the time here, people who care for more than a cute character referring to the protagonist in a childishly affectionate way are best off avoiding this one as their moemoe counterparts avoid any heroine over twelve.

But didn’t you want to be a hero with superpowers when you were a kid? Wouldn’t you like to relive those happy times? Why are you always so grumpy?

Because I always sided with the bad guys, and they always lose.

That’s your own fault. Uhaha, uhaha!

Zutto Tsukushite Ageru no!

Company: PeasSoft
Game site: ずっとつくしてあげるの!
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
Kentarou planned to leave his hometown after graduation to pursue his dream. Upon telling his osananajimis this, they demanded that he choose who will marry him before that happens! They started competing amongst themselves as to who would serve him the best. He told them that he will give them an answer by the end of the summer, which they thought to mean that this summer would be the last chance to appeal to him, adding more fuel to their battle for his heart. Who will he end up choosing… or rather, who will seize the spot by his side?

The latest title in the ‘Tsukushite’ series, featuring lots of ecchi with osananajimis. PeasSoft sure loves them osananajimis. It’s ok, I do too and there’s seven of them to choose from. Definitely going with the genki moodmaker Mao and dojikko ganbariya-san Nanami.

Even were this not PeasSoft there is little here worth consideration, just an excuse for H scenes with childhood friends who are apparently all fawning over the protagonist for no good reason. Now I am well aware by now that the majority of eroge writers are not the most competent or creative breed, and some leeway has to be given to such people when they are starting a new story. However games like this reek of sub standard, everything here is just thrown together to arbitrarily cause all the girls around the protagonist to fawn over him. It is one thing for maybe one girl to have prior feelings and or for the opening scenes to cause some form of interaction, but really this is worse than the Shuffle series with how unreasonably strong this guys protagonist pheromones are.

Haru Made, Kururu.

Company: すみっこ (Sumikko)
Game site: はるまで、くるる。
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
For some reason, Kazuki ended up spending his spring break with four girls in a remote area that had no wireless reception and didn’t even have a convenience store. There was only a school building that seems to be on the verge of closure, a large dormitory that looked like a hot spring hotel and a chimney that stretched up to the sky as far as the eyes could see. He thought that he would just spend some peaceful days here, but that’s when one of the girls Shizuka declared that they will make this place his harem, and started stripping in front of him in his bewilderment.

This is the Sumikko’s first game since its renewal and it’s a nukige. At least the art is better than the past and the SDs are done by Hirose Madoka (Koisora). Still not worth playing though.

For some reason I just can’t quite put my finger on why I don’t care about this game. Maybe it is because there is no effort put into anything aside from the HCG, or maybe it is because the characters simply do not appeal to me, but perhaps the cause would be how there is little point to H scenes or characters who are so one dimensional they exist solely to cater to the protagonist’s sexual whims. I will never understand nukige nor the people who play them as there is just no point to anything beyond the HCG, there is no character interaction or development, no reason offered for almost anything that happens, and all it ever comes back to is copious amounts of sex. I can only see the text and poor attempts at character interaction being a hindrance when all anyone who plays such a game would or could want are the HCG images.

“Copious amounts of sex”

Exactly what I don’t understand, all they want is the HCG, why bother with all those pesky words that just get in the way?

Some people don’t want just the HCG, they want the full experience.

Then they should learn to play better games.

Futari wa My Angel

Company: クラウド (CROWD)
Game site: ふたりはマイエンジェル
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
A long long time ago, angels and demons fought against one another on Earth, resulting in demons being sealed deep underground. Now over a million years later, two students attend Amatsuka Gakuen. Kou was the student council president who was famous around the school, while Ruka didn’t stand out at all even in his own class. Other than being in the same class, they shared nothing in common… until they were caught up in the battle with the demons which was started up again, turning them into girls. An angel appeared and bestowed magical powers on them, turning them into Angel White and Angel Black!

With genderbending protagonists, I’m really not sure who CROWD is marketing the game to. Their last title Maou o Seifuku Suru Tame no, 666 no Houhou seemed more to cater more to the female audience, so it’s better than it’s back to being a true eroge. Well, kinda. Anyways, ridiculous plot that doesn’t stand up in a month like this. Pass.

I can only hope for a BL ending.

Company: Lose
Game site: ものべの
Release date: March 30, 2012 Delayed to April 27, 2012
After six years, Tooru returned with his imouto Natsuha to the remote village of Monobeno deep in the mountains of Kochi prefecture. They reunited with the akashaguma (child-like house guardian spirit) Sumi, the umbrella spirit Hishakaku and his osananajimi and self-proclaimed fiancée Alice. They played in the mountains, visited the shrine and were visited by the cow demon Tooko just like in the past.

Just as they were getting used to living in Monobeno, it was time for the seven stars summer festival dedicated to the local deity Himemiya-sama. The festival was lively, concluding with the masked dance. While watching the dance, Natsuha suddenly started shaking, complaining that her body felt cold. He quickly took her to the doctor, but nothing seemed to be wrong with her. They went to play in the nearby stream the next day. Hearing the waterfall caused Natsuha to panic and run off in fear, but once again they couldn’t find a reason for her peculiar actions. That night, she appeared in front of them very much an adult, and she bled in her nether regions for the first time. Unable to figure out what caused these inexplicable changes, they could only calm her down and watch over her. Another shock awaited them in the morning when they found Natsuha had returned back to her normal size, but without any memories of the day before.

They decided to head back to the city for a proper examination. Unfortunately, there was a major landslide which blocked off the only world into the village. Natsuha wished to leave badly, saying that something scary is coming for her. What was causing Natsuha’s changes? Was it a disease or a curse? Tooru was determined to find the cause and a way to save Natsuha.

Wonderful lolis scenery, soothing lolis music and a very sleek interface. We must find a way to protect the loli! Growth is bad! Puberty is bad! But seriously, the loli levels are high in this one. With the way that Tooru talks to and protects Natsuha (not to mention their age difference), it feels odd that she’s the main heroine since you wouldn’t think of her in an H scene, much less eight. I guess some of those would be when she’s ‘older’, albeit with the same child-like mentality. Natsuha is definitely very cute, so I wouldn’t mind having her as an imouto, but Alice is probably a better match in this game. The story set-up isn’t bad either (although the landslide was a little bit too convenient).

Apparently Natsuha could sense Micchi coming for her, a valuable talent for any loli to safeguard herself from pedos. On that topic the brother sure has a good pedo smirk, he must have had a lot of practice. Were the emphasis not obviously on showcasing lolis there may have been some potential to this story. As is however this is just another attempt at justification for lolicons rather than a game meant to be something special otherwise. Definitely one of the games that should make anyone who plays or looks forward to it question their moral preferences.

I have no untoward intentions.

Your smirk belies your intentions.

Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles 03

Company: アージュ (âge)
Game site: マブラヴ オルタネイティヴ クロニクルズ03
Release date: March 30, 2012
The latest installment of the Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles series. This will be an all-ages title. It contains episode 02 of Muv-Luv Unlimited The Day After and a new chapter featuring Isumi’s Valkyries. This series is pretty much only for those who can’t get enough of the Muv-Luv franchise.

This is getting to be like DC, nothing needs to be said.

Riajuu Saimin ~Real ga Juujitsu suru Saimin Seikatsu wa Hajimemashita.~

Company: C:drive.
Game site: リア充催眠~リアルが充実する催眠生活はじめました。~
Release date: March 30, 2012
Hibiki is a typical otaku who lacks confidence in a typical city, annoyed (and jealous) at all the lovey-dovey couples at school and in town. One day, he discovered some materials left by his grandfather on hypnosis and studied it semi-interestedly. He tried it on himself first, instructing himself to become popular, to become the riajuu that he so despised. He fell asleep and the next day, he thought that the hypnosis didn’t work, but soon girls who weren’t interested in him at all before are all over him!

This is the third hypnosis game from C:drive. He sure had balls trying it out first on himself, but I guess there wasn’t anything to lose. Unfortunately, hypnosis is often used in place of proper character and relationship development to get to H scenes. You shouldn’t need it when you’ve already got a tsun imouto that secretly loves you. Just give her some life counselling or something and she’ll be sticking to you in no time.

The first thing I would do if I was able to so completely hypnotize someone is to convince Micchi to stop obsessing over lolis and little sisters. After that I would create an army but that isn’t really relevant anymore, what is however is just how boring and uncreative this protagonist is. Wouldn’t it be more entertaining to implant violent suggestion into the mind of one of the girls from the couples he hates to stab the guy and herself whenever they hold hands or kiss or something? Would make for an interesting cat and mouse game with the police and the potential for heroines of similar mindset to come out along with moral dilemmas such as, does he kill her, does he keep killing after he finds himself to becoming one of the people he hates, or does he kill them both? Well long rant aside, it is really boring to use hypnosis as an means to bring about H scenes with little to no effort from the writer.

Why does that sound oddly like a certain series featuring a note? Anyways, I wouldn’t want to play a game like that since bad guys never win. Don’t you know that by now?

People love to root for the bad guys even more so when its the protagonist, just look at Code Geass. Besides the series with Notes was terrible and nothing like what I mentioned aside from trying to avoid the pursuing law enforcement.

Company: 天狐 (TENCO)
Game site: 英雄*戦姫
Release date: March 30, 2012
This SLG is the first title by TENCO. This was an era when many major powers competing amongst each other for world supremacy. Britania wishes to unite all nations peacefully. The EU set up a system of collaboration in order to quell the constant conflicts. The seafaring nation of Vinland was intent on pillaging everyone. Meanwhile, the Eastern island nation of Zibang was in the midst of a civil war. The ruler of the Yamataikoku Himiko found the protagonist in the mountains without his memories and asked for his help in uniting Zibang and then the world.

You probably recognize Ooyari Ashito’s artwork from the Littlewitch games. For this title, they’re going the Koihime route and moefying over 50 major figures from history (outside of WWII which has been done many times already). The goal of the game is to conquer the whole world, not unlike many AliceSoft games. With so many heroines, most of the CGs will be H ones, although I’m mostly interested in the parody events that they promised. Marco Polo is pretty damn cute. The battle system seems pretty simple and it might get a bit repetitive, but you can’t go wrong with a wide variety of characters and a world for you to take over. For Zibang!

The real question is, does this follow an Age of Empires or probably more like Civilization format, or is there some kind of weird time warp allowing everyone to exist at once disregarding technology differences? I actually want to like this game as I love strategy games and especially the ones with options on how you proceed but I doubt it will be anywhere near even a basic version of the normal games. Instead will probably follow the normal eroge version and throw tons of H at us to make up for gameplay lost. I can only hope this ends up being a game that can renew this genre for me.

Game intro

Okujou no Yurirei-san

Company: ライアーソフト (Liar-soft)
Game site: 屋上の百合霊さん
Release date: March 30, 2012
Commerce school Kutsuboshi Gakuen, nicknamed Shirojo, was built on the ruins of a castle. Yuna is a girl who doesn’t socialize much with other students. One day, she met a pair of ghosts on the roof. Sachi, who had passed away due to an accident before the war, and Megumi, who had died due to illness 30 years ago, were lovers who asked her for help in fulfilling their wish: ‘a wonderful first time with no regrets’. Unsure of how to achieve this, she aids them in increasing the number of yuri couples at the school.

This is quite different from Liar-soft’s their standard steampunk titles, but you’ll hear no complaining from me. As the protagonist, Yuna takes on the role of narrator for all the different yuri couples: senpai/kouhai, teacher/student, love triangles and many others. The game is partially voiced. We don’t get many yuri-ge that aren’t doujins, so I’m sure the yuri fans will be happy about this. Viva Yuritopia!

Sigh Yuri, I prefer BL. Sadly however like many same gender based games the story element is lacking a real driving force to bring everything together into a cohesive whole. I do give them credit for trying something a little different, but as is the story varies little from the usual doujin fare meaning other than artwork there is little reason for this to be considered better than a doujin. Perhaps the writing will shine although I have yet to see anything from Liar-soft that indicates they are capable of such a feat no matter how creative the foundation may be. On a sort of side note I think part of the reason same gender couplings are so difficult is that the dynamic potential for relationships are the same between all characters, so instead of having five set heroines and choosing one, what happens if you just want to see two of the heroines together? Quite difficult to include every potential pairing as a “route” option thus excluding more of the already limited audience than one may wish to.

There’s already set groupings and you can select from the schedule which routes you wish to pursue.

Yeah, it is the set groupings that make it more difficult to appeal to everyone is what I mean.

Otome ga Tsumugu Koi no Canvas

Company: ensemble
Game site: 乙女が紡ぐ恋のキャンバス
Release date: March 30, 2012
Shin was instructed to record a TV program as usual by his sister Hatora, who was a famous artist. When he turned on the screen, he saw a photo of himself dressed as a girl being auctioned for lots of money. Hatora quipped that next time she’ll take a nude photo of him. Sensing danger, he ran away from home… only to realize later that he was still dressed as a girl.

He ended up in front of the art gallery and a seemingly rich girl Rena asked why he was there so late at night. Mistaken for a student at the nearby girls-only art school Oukou Gakuen, he was taken inside to observe a bunch of paintings being brought into the gallery. Suddenly, he noticed some thieves and ended up getting taken hostage. After being saved by Rena’s bodyguard Chiharu, he thought he was free to go… but then Rena ushered him into the waiting limousine and took him to her mansion!

Rena questioned him how he had known that the paintings were fake and demanded to know his name, upon which he replied Mizuki, which was his surname. With the help of the head maid Akie, he managed to not have his identity fully blown. Then Rena presented him with a school uniform and told him that she had signed him up at Oukou Gakuen after hearing that he didn’t attend school. He will also serve as her maid. Unable to return home, how will Shin…, no, Mizuki fare in this new setting!?

ensemble’s previous title Damamuko was pretty much a total flop, so they’ve totally changed the staff for this one. Sure, the setup where a guy ends up having to dress up as a girl to attend a school has been done before (even by ensemble themselves), but the trial was genuinely fun to play, so maybe it’s worth at least trying out. Shin seems to be perfect – he can cook, clean, knows everything… well, aside from the common knowledge that if you’re undercover in a girl’s school, for god’s sake, keep the toilet seat down. Too bad kouhai Yuki didn’t show up in the trial. Art collecting, selling and auctioning is serious business.

Perhaps it may seem strange coming from me but from what I have seen so far I approve of this game. Sure most of the concepts have been done before, but by itself there is nothing wrong with that as long the entire plot and setting are not cookie cutter. Here we have a game that brings our hapless protagonist into a girls school via a series of unfortunate events that while silly still retain a sense of comprehensible purpose in relation to one another. It is not as though the authors simply proclaimed things happen like so, and while there is a somewhat forcible style of writing that brings him into the school to begin with it remains within the acceptable limits for a game of this genre. After all the very basis for a crossdressing game is something unlikely by nature thus I feel they did a good if not amazing job of making things work. On top of this foundation there is nothing about the art themes that feel horribly out of place so far. Lacking the pretentious narration other art based games such as Canvas suffer from where characters and art are built up and deliver artwork that is generally terrible yet lauded as though it belonged in the Louvre only adds to the sense of a decently thought out game where the creators understand their subject matter and how to relate to it. For a month full of uninspired titles I think this will make one of the better comedy / high school romance style games for this month.

Houkago☆Eroge-bu! ~Eroge Seisaku no Tame Onna no Ko-tachi to Ecchi Shimakuri na Mainichi~

Company: MOONSTONE Cherry
Game site: 放課後☆エロゲー部!~エロゲー制作のため女の子たちとえっちしまくりな毎日~
Release date: March 30, 2012
Youtarou and his imouto Hinako are part of the school’s gaming club. The previous eroge that they released flopped miserably, with awful reviews and sales. Their advisor told them that it was awful because they did not have any sex experience and they should make their next eroge while having sex with him. Will their ecchi training help them turn things around?

When you’re gonna make a nukige, why settle for normal H? Go all out and use all the fetishes you can think of! Just like in Imopara, there’s animation and a harem route. You can even announce to the world via Twitter how much you’re enjoying the game! Damn, that OP is catchy.

Someone buy this guy a fleshlight.

But that doesn’t help as educational material! It needs to be a group effort!

Well he can be nice and give them toys to play with too then.

Micchi’s Top 6 for This Month

  1. ‘&’ -Sora no Mukou de Sakimasu You ni-
  2. Friends
  3. Eiyuu*Senki
  4. Material Brave
  6. Monobeno

Zen’s Top 3 for This Month

  2. Otome ga Tsumugu Koi no Canvas
  3. AngelGuard

I wonder if I could hypnotize myself to become an onii-chan…. Actually, that might backfire and I’ll end with an Ayumu.

So you want to hypnotize yourself to abduct some random little girl off the street and force her to call you nii san while she does all the household chores? That sure sounds oddly familiar, almost like a certain blonde hobomoto.

I love chuuni settings… simply because they are like junk food… delicious and easy to get into as long as you cut off that annoying sense of disgust at the absurdity of it all that rises as you get older and more jaded…

  • 2. Aedes  |  March 1, 2012 at 1:16 am

I’m hyping for Monobeno more than Dracu-riot. No, it’s not only because of the lolis, though they are a big part of it. Youkai stories have always fascinated me. And ones with lolis in it can only get better.

  • 3. baylife  |  March 1, 2012 at 1:19 am

    miu #1
    ayukawa #1
    dracu riot #1

  • 4. Aero  |  March 1, 2012 at 2:28 am

Too much potential this month >__>

  • 5. hyl  |  March 1, 2012 at 5:48 am

    I agree with Aero.
March does seem for me alot better than the last few months for eroge.
I guess i will try out Dracu Riot and Friends

  • 6. Alessandro (@BleedingGetter)  |  March 1, 2012 at 6:36 am

There is really too much this month, but i had to choose, I’d say
    Material Brave
    Houkago Eroge-bu

  • 7. weeaboo  |  March 1, 2012 at 6:50 am

“One day a random and unremarkable boy happened to be at some random location and by sheer chance ends up being confessed/kissed/raped by the most sought after girl in his tiny little school. Of course these actions lead to jealousy in the one or two girls who secretly had feelings for our unremarkable protagonist and acts as a catalyst to bring in more random females attracted to his protagonist pheromones. Either that or he is the only person in the world to get a bottle of Axe that works as advertised.”

tv tropes worthy, should be called the “eroge standard”

    guys who is hobomoto lol

also i seriously couldn’t tell if zen was joking on the prefering BL thing.

    quote of the article

“That’s your own fault. Uhaha, uhaha!”
    i laughed heartily

    • 8. weeaboo  |  March 1, 2012 at 6:55 am

oh yeah i gotta say material brave is actually pretty fun and overall it’s pretty slick. their older duel savior games were entertaining as well. the combat system is pretty fun.

but honestly if you compare it to an actual commercial game like skyrim or ME3 of course, it can’t keep up.

it’s got it’s own flair though, i definitely think it’s a much more fun game than almost all other eroge that try to add gaming elements. time is always of the essence though, so even if it’s a fun game compared to other eroge, if you compare it to an actual video game meant to be played, it’s probably average or below average, so at that point you might as well just go play an actual video game lol.

      • 9. weeaboo  |  March 1, 2012 at 6:56 am

also my favorite adverb is pretty.

  • 10. johnishida  |  March 1, 2012 at 7:40 am

Lots of games this month. For the moment I’m interested only in Dracu-Riot (while you guys fight over Erina and Azusa I’ll take Miu), Material Brave and Monobeno. Everything else will have to wait for reviews.

Also, what’s with the weird twists for most of the games this month? Most of those actually looked a bit more interesting until I read the twist part…

  • 11. Liemyx  |  March 1, 2012 at 11:59 am

I just know that Material Brave and Eiyuu*Senki will take up most of my time this month.
I enjoyed the Friends trial a lot, although i think it will probably end up similar to relations. At least Yui is super cute though!
I completely forgot about Otome ga Tsumugu Koi no Canvas. Yuki is adorable though. I especially love her Kangaroo PJ’s!

Too many eroges, too little time…

  • 12. guanhian  |  March 1, 2012 at 1:04 pm

..Dracu-riot and Material Brave looks so tempting (¯﹃¯)

  • 13. otakuyaro  |  March 1, 2012 at 9:22 pm

    Eiyuu Senki
    Material Brave

This month looks interesting — so many games… lol
I always end up getting games that I think are okay and thought I’d stay away from just out of curiosity. I really need to save space, though.

  • 14. 神山早崎  |  March 1, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Let’s see, Yuzu-soft, GIGA, Akatsuki Works and possibly Meteor are on the way. So yeah, it seems a little more agitated.
I’m having my thoughts about buying ME3 since Eushully’s new game is coming…

  • 15. Zen  |  March 16, 2012 at 12:53 am

@ weeaboo : Sana from Tenshin uhhh ranman..? I always want to call it ramen for some reason.. probably because Hime is delicious. You would understand the reference if you played the game, I probably should not simply say it here as it is something of a spoiler though.

Also to be clear I am not comparing those games to full production games like Mass Effect or Skyrim, but rather citing how the quality drops when they try to combine rather than focus on one element at a time. If anything I would compare them to very simple yet addicting flash games as it would be unfair and insulting to both games were I to compare such things to full production games. As someone who enjoys even old Atari and NES games it becomes more the lack of development even within the confines of their existing limitations. A day or two spent working on a database table for those games or a few dozen extra lines of code could make a difference that they just don’t bother with.On top of that the way stories are butchered to allow for silly powers and other tie ins with the gameplay is just plain horrific. So as both a gamer and an avid VN reader I feel betrayed and insulted by their laziness and the overall poor quality of such games.

@ 神山早崎 : Normally I would suggest going for ME3, but after playing and completing the game I would say don’t bother unless you played both 1 and 2, and thought 2 was a step in the right direction. In my opinion 3 is the worst game of the series by far despite some very well done scenes.

  • 16. Micchi  |  March 20, 2012 at 6:30 pm

@clephas: It sure is delicious junk food. Only just over a week more…!!

@Aero: April is looking mighty fine right now too.

@weeaboo: I assumed that he was joking. It’s for the best.

@johnishida: Is it worth adding a twist just for the sake of making your game stand out among the rest or is it sufficient to just go with a tried-and-true story and do it really well?

@Liemyx: For some odd reason, Aile released a second Friends trial a mere 5 days before the release date.

@神山早崎: And damn Soukou is addictive…

  • 17. Globby  |  April 7, 2012 at 2:48 pm

Dude, you always leave out like half the releases or so, where are the rest? Tentacle eroges, bdsm eroges, all that shit, where?

    • 18. Zen  |  April 7, 2012 at 3:53 pm

That’s like going wine tasting and asking where the wine in a box is..

    • 19. Micchi  |  April 7, 2012 at 4:28 pm

As mentioned on the Eroge page: “The games shown on this site are representative of my tastes, so if you’re looking for H-based eroge, I’d suggest you check out Getchu or Hongfire instead.”

We try to provide summaries of upcoming games so that you can find something that tailors to your tastes. However, I think you would agree with us that you can normally just look at the title for those types of games and know what you’re getting. Getchu is your best friend here. Sometimes we do make exceptions dependent on the artwork and how ridiculous the story is, but generally we don’t cover them here as they are not in-line with our tastes nor the blog’s motif. Hope you understand.

      • 20. Zen  |  April 7, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Same thing I said, less to the point and more politically correct, GO MICCHI!
