September 2012 Eroge Releases

September 1, 2012 at 12:01 am 18 comments

Is it something in September that makes people lose their memories? That theme along with chuuni elements are rampant this month, with BOOST5’s SINCLIENT and light’s Zero Infinity highlighting the bunch. Personally I think that SkyFish’s Tsukumo no Kanade holds more story potential. On the flip side, you can search for true pure love in HOOKSOFT’s LOVELY QUEST, find your hidden side in the ironically titled Pure Girl by FrontWing, or go on a musical adventure with Whirlpool’s Ryuuyoku no Melodia.

While not the best month at least there are enough titles to help forget about how awful August was. There are a few titles that may be worth taking a look at although will still most likely end up as average at best. As much as I enjoy working on getting rid of ever growing backlogs, I would like to have a better month or two. It has been far too long since I felt any game turned out as a must play.

Tsuisou no Augment

Company: 地雷ソフト (Jirai Soft)
Game site: 追奏のオーグメント
Release date: September 14, 2012
Comments:
This is the first game by Jirai Soft. Hideya is already over 80 years old and his body no longer moves the way it used to. Having lost his will to live, he commits suicide by stabbing himself in the throat with a knife. His last wish was to be return to his childhood and experience his youthful days once more. He heard a girl’s voice telling him that she would grant his wish. When he woke up, he found himself in a world 60 years ago and he was young again. His parents were still alive and his older sister still lived with him. Returning to his room confused but yet happy that his wish was fulfilled, he was greeted by a human-shaped monster. She introduced herself as Augment, the shinigami who granted his wish. She wished that he can attain happiness so that she can retrieve his soul without regrets.

Wouldn’t we all love to have the opportunity to return to a certain point in our lives and do things a little bit differently? Not only Hideya have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (he’ll die afterwards presumably), but he also retains his memories so he won’t make the same mistake twice… unless he wants to. And if he did, he can use the power he inherited from Augment and press the reset button and try once more. All he has to do is stab himself in the throat again (shouldn’t be too hard since he already did it once). Even though there’s time manipulation and a shinigami, the trial presented itself as not much more than a typical love comedy. There’s even a bracon imouto (someone else’s) and siscon teacher, so it’s not like the plain artwork means that the characters are plain. A lot of tsukkomi, although I think a little too much with the guy friend. I don’t think this will be landmine, but it probably won’t make much of an impression. Then again… if it isn’t a landmine, is it still a landmine since it didn’t meet players’ expectations based on the company name?

And then we find out it was all a dream he had while dying, the end. If not maybe he can go an Augment route and cheat, like wishing for more wishes? I mean she is kinda hot in a creepy way. In all seriousness however while the premise itself is interesting… it has something of a “So what?” feel to it as the time travel aspect does little to change the nature of a standard eroge aside from offering more of an explanation for matters. Why does girl X care for him? Well because he is a serial throat stabber and has actually stalked her enough to know everything about her. As long as expectations are set roughly around average there should not be any major problems with the game, just don’t go in expecting the making up for a flawed past storyline to be anything impressive.

MISTAKE×MISCAST

Company: ミニヨン (Mignonne)
Game site: MISTAKE×MISCAST
Release date: September 21, 2012 Delayed to September 28, 2012
Comments:
New release date after being pushed back from April. This is the debut title for Mignonne. Itsuki occasionally has dreams about a lover from his past life, Suou-hime. One morning in homeroom, a new transfer student named Rin who looks just like her appeared in front of his very eyes and he embraced her, happy that he finally met her again. “What are you suddenly hugging me for… What’s wrong with you?” Well, it’s natural that he would get hit after that doing that to someone who he met for the first time. However, that isn’t what shocked him the most. It was that the cute Suou-hime that he knew was now a tomboy. Meanwhile, her twin older sister Yui, his osananajimi Kuu and the rest of the class watched dumbfoundedly.

I’m pretty sure they’ll end up together in the end, all raburabu.

I wonder which game mignon got his past life from, there are plenty of choices after all. As far as his current life this is about as standard as eroge setups come, a dangerous choice for a first attempt at a game, unless the writing is amazing, this is likely to be a failure, the competition is too fierce for a new company to not stand out in some way that attracts people other than die hard fans of the particular setup they have chosen. Since it is not my concern however I will take a look at the game when it is released to see what mignon is capable of, since though it may be standard there is also nothing that stands out as immediately bad or sub par save some minor artwork issues.

I think their main issue right now is renewing their official site.

I think their main issue right now is making a game… They ARE making a game right? Perhaps the biggest Mistake here would be betting on this game going gold. See you next month, know that I’m rooting for you to be the new champion of ridiculous delays.

Update: Oh hey, the site is back up! And a master-up too!

Mon o Mamoru Oshigoto

Company: ソフトハウスキャラ (SofthouseChara)
Game site: 門を守るお仕事
Release date: September 21, 2012 Delayed to September 28, 2012
Comments:
The powerful Lycana Kingdom and Grafford Kingdom constantly fight for control over a small country between them. Lilzo is a small trading post which grew into a large town due to the increased traffic from the war. The town employs a group of mercenaries led by Heat to protect the town at all costs. Of course, that means lots of money is required. The mercenaries gather funds by all means, for the ultimate goal of protecting the town.

All of this is just a set-up for SofthouseChara’s SLGs. In order to guard against enemies, you can either fight them or bribe them. Either way you’ll need a lot of money, which means solving problems and having a good rapport with the townspeople. Of course, you should be on even better terms with your bishoujo mercenary friends, although I doubt that will be much of a problem. If you like a game that’s a little more hands-on than your typical ADVs, SofthouseChara games are never a bad option. I would have appreciated a bit more explanation of the game system in the trial though, and the ability to move more than unit per turn. And more ways to earn money. I felt the balance needed some tweaking.

Nothing present here to sway me away from my default “Gameplay in eroge makes me sad” stance toward games of this genre. I’ll stick with actual games for gameplay, and eroge for when I simply wish to read till someone manages to successfully combine the chocolate of games with the peanut butter of eroge.

I prefer combining the peanut butter of eroge and the jelly of imoutos.

I believe I prefer little sisters in jelly form as well.

LOVELY QUEST

Company: HOOKSOFT
Game site: LOVELY QUEST
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Summer is the season of love. There have been many cases of ‘impure’ relationships at Amanotogawa Gakuen and the “Lovely Smile Committee” was started to promote ‘pure’ love. But what is pure love? Is holding hands after school ‘pure’? What about feeding a homemade bentou, giving a lap pillow or going to the bath together? Zenichi was chosen to be the lone member on the committee and sets out to search for true pure love. There’s no time to be embarrassed, the future of the school has been entrusted to you.

Pure love is living in a dream house with your imouto, kouhai… Whoops, wrong game. The main selling point of this chara-ge is the natural simple loveliness of the girls, such as seeing their blushing faces being with the one they love, especially the osananajimi Hami. There’s also a powered-up version of SuGirly Wish‘s ‘girly talking’ and a real-time choice system where the heroines react differently depending on how long it takes you to make a choice (if at all). The art quality of the subchars is a notch below the main heroines. True imouto Minaho is obviously on my radar, but I’m also interested in exchange student Aino, who is curious about everything in Japan. I’m curious about you too, Aino-chan. Let’s get to know each other better~

If Romeo and Juliet are to be taken as one of the classic examples of pure love then we can postulate that the answer lies in a lovers suicide, and on this point I can agree with this committee and the ideals they promote. Nothing is more romantic and pure than being bound together with that one person for the rest of your life and beyond. Read this one for the characters, nothing else here would be worth the time. On that note I do have to wonder why they bother with the incredibly stupid idea of a pure love committee, when a standard setup would be more appealing. I have no idea what could be pure about writers contriving to establish a setting that essentially forces the issue, then proceeds well past their theme of “Pure” with reckless abandon. I would give them more credit if they had the purity and lack of ill intent towards their own heroines to make this an all ages title, rather than masquerading “Pure love” as a thin veil covering up the immoral lust.

This month’s lesson: You shouldn’t think too deeply about the notion of purity in eroge.

Believe me I don’t want to.. but when they make that a primary theme what choice do I have? I have to admire your ability to ignore everything aside whether or not the characters are the type you like..

Re:birth colony -Lost azurite-

Company: あっぷりけ (Applique)
Game site: Re:birth colony -Lost azurite-
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Five hundred years ago, the 5th star rain plunged the world into a deep winter, forcing humans to flee underground, under the sea or in man-made structures called arcologies. At first they waited for the day when the Earth would return to normal, but soon they lost interest in the outside world and were content living in their miniature peaceful worlds.

The arcology Aquarius was founded as an international research institution on a man-made island, but now it is a segregated city with distinct rich and poor areas. Souji was an orphan living on the edge of the poor area of town. He owed his life to a blue-haired woman who saved him and his sister Ruri, but one day she disappeared. Helpless to save her, Souji vowed to become stronger. One day, a girl appeared before him. She looked exactly like the woman who disappeared and also had the same name – Azurite.

This is set in the same world as Applique Imouto’s Fake Azure Arcology (written by the Morisaki Ryouto), although this time it’s more serious. I find some parts in the trial intriguing especially when the aoi shoujo appeared, but I think that it’s too wordy. Some of the information that’s provided (contained within the TIPS and Azurite’s 3 min explanations) isn’t really necessary. Sometimes less is more. On the other hand, some appreciate a better understanding of the game world, so whatever floats your boat. I didn’t care much for any of the characters. Also, there is only one Rindou Ruri and she’s a loli.

The arcology idea does have some merit although previously they did a horribly job of bringing the setting to life by taking something presented as serious and turning into something that was painfully stupid. I would hope this time they do more research into their subject matter before writing about it so they don’t look like morons again, but as its an eroge my hopes are not very high. Too lazy to do more than think about and try to recall but if I am correct it sounds like this arcology may be the one that blondy from Fake Azure Arcology came from. If so, then this is even worse as anyone who read the previous game is already well aware of what the arcologies are and their purpose. Then again even if it is not there is little use in the setting because again the arcology idea has been explained at length, dulling the value of this setting. Personally I would suggest only bothering to play the game if you like the characters, else the arcology idea and their haphazardly lackluster story and mechanics may wind up too irksome to bother with.

SINCLIENT

Company: BOOST5
Game site: SINCLIENT(シンクライアント)
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
This is the debut title for BOOST5. Tooru lost his memories and roamed the street of Yokohama searching for his identity and past. There were many contacts on his cell phone and his room was full of weapons and fake passports. Men in black suits chased after him and his body instinctively knew how to fight. It was obvious that he was not a normal person before losing his memories.

He also had a room key in his pocket and when he found the hotel and entered the room, he was appalled to find a murdered woman with the word ‘Pigrizia’ written on the wall in blood. This was part of the ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ murders that the public had been abuzz about. Finding a memo on his cell phone that looked like a murder plan, he began to suspect whether he was the serial killer. Then he met a man that looked like the splitting image of himself.

The story is written by Tanizaki Ouka, who worked on Nitro+’s Steins;Gate. There’s chuuni aspects to the game as Tooru (Bourne?) is pretty much unbeatable. It’s interesting to see a protagonist that doesn’t trust anyone though. However, there were some parts in the trial that I just can’t accept. After he ran away from the murder scene and it showed up on the news everywhere, how the hell was he able to re-enter the murder scene? You’d have thought that it’d be totally surrounded in yellow tape, and there the room was completely unlocked. At least make it a bit more believable….

Considering the painful levels of suspending disbelief necessary to get through the retarded story of Steins Gate (Which granted did have an awesome protagonist going for it), I cannot say I look forward to this game. Once again it would seem we have a talented protagonist and a not so talented writer. Though it may not seem as such given my commentary I am fine with suspending my disbelief, all I ask is for the writer to at least acknowledge the need to make sense and not just pull a bunny out of a hat every time an explanation or plot device is required. If you want to appeal to the crowd who cares for nothing aside from moe characters, don’t even bother with a story, there is no point. But when writing a game that involves a plot of any sort beyond some cliche high school romance I do wish the creators would try to make use of the extra work they put into their setting and story, not just turn back onto moe, or chuuni, or any other cop out. It seems as though a coherent and sensible plot within its own established parameters is too much to ask for these days.

On a side note the start of this game reminds me of the beginning of that anime and uhh light novel I believe, Eden of the East, or was it East of Eden? Either way it is eerily similar.

Except he doesn’t drop his pants until much later.

I know this is eroge and all, but sometimes things are best left to the imagination.

Zero Infinity -Devil of Maxwell-

Company: light
Game site: Zero Infinity -Devil of Maxwell-
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
In 1968, the city of Yahiro had undergone rapid development after the war. Ryouga lives with his imouto Takane, accepting everything that happens in life as he believes that everything in the world exists for a reason. After meeting a man Rei who did not remember anything but his own name and helping him out, they became friends. Later when Ryouga found Rei being beat up, he tried to help but instead got caught up in the battle-to-the-death world of the Imaginators, individuals who have machine hearts that make them into super-powered beings.

This is the second title by the Vermilion team at light, a chuuni SF/cyberpunk story. These over-the-top chuuni stories just don’t appeal to me. When you’re a normal student and you see two powered-up persons beating up someone, you don’t try to be a hero. It’ll only get you killed. Your imouto would be sad. Don’t make your imouto cry. Anyways, giant weapons and robots don’t make my blood boil. Pass.

I like Light games.. I don’t like excessive chuuni. There are plenty of ways to go the cybernetics route in a story without resorting to… well.. this. I cringed twice when I first saw this game, first from the artwork and the second time when seeing that it was Light who made it. As a result I find myself in the unfortunate position of agreeing with Micchi here, they ruin their own theme by going overboard with the silliness. An approach closer to the Ghost in the Shell (First movie, none of the terrible garbage that came after) style would have suited this series much better in my opinion. Given that it is Light however they may be able to salvage something from this given their penchant for darker themes in their stories, still I wouldn’t expect the same feel to this game as their previous titles have had.

I’m so glad that light has now made a sister brand (sweet light), which caters more to the non-chuuni crowd. Hopefully they make more gives similar to Tapestry.

Kamidere

Company: CandySoft
Game site: かみデレ
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Shinya is a 2nd year student at Nijiuki Gakuen, who also takes care of the family shrine. One summer day, he awakened as one of the Seven Gods of Fortune (shichifukujin), Hotei. Lucky thing for him as the other six gods were all bishoujos at his school! However, they don’t seem to get along well with him, calling him a monkey and shaming him endlessly. The principal Youko, who was the goddess Amaterasu, instructed them to work together to restore the people’s faith.

The scenario writer Onoue Shouta has written such masterpieces as Princess Limited, D-EVE in you and Neko☆Koi!. Basically a bunch of cute girls with special abilities saving people, fighting ‘evil’ beings and becoming close friends with the newest god. I don’t really like religious references in my eroge and as a chara-ge, it didn’t really captivate me that much.

Shallow game riding on a goddess gimmick, not much else to say as the game pretty much does my job of insulting it for me.

Pajama-san Konnichiwa

Company: EMU
Game site: パジャマさんこんにちは
Release date: September 28, 2012 Delayed to October 26, 2012
Comments:
New release date after being pushed back from July. This is EMU’s first game since 2005, inspired by their previous work Kimi ni Tomoru Hi. As a result of a request from a distant relative, Masato became the manager of the orphanage Yuriorien. He didn’t know that it was located in a remote part in the mountains and began to regret his decision, but he was soon taken in by the warm hospitality of the people in the orphanage. Thinking that it wouldn’t be bad to work in a job where you were needed by others, he began to live with the girls who all had their own peculiarities. At that time, the girls still had not realized the dark side which lied within their hearts.

Don’t be fooled by the cute old-school art: all the heroines in this game are mentally ill and one wrong move could spell a bad end for you. I wouldn’t expect a well-constructed story given the shoddy record for this small doujin-like company. I’d suggest skipping this.

Somewhat interesting idea with the heroines and their issues that lead to potential bad ends makes me wish a better company had put together a similar idea.

Pure Girl

Company: フロントウイング (FrontWing)
Game site: ピュアガール
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Satoru and his imouto Sora had to find a new place to live when their parents decided to go on a long trip and also renovate the house at the same time. They ended up at the ‘Dream House’. With an open-concept design, a spacious interior, a large pool with jacuzzi, as well as an outdoor bath with a mountain view, it’s everything you could have wanted from a home. The landlord Kei welcomed them and the three other residents Yogiri, Miyako and Suzu: “Perversion is something you should hide, but not something you should be ashamed of!”. Satoru immediately refuted that they were perverts, but he did not yet know at that time that the girls all had hidden fetishes.

Yes, this is a nukige. Yes, I want to play it. Yes, I want to peropero Miyako-chan. Yes, I want Sora to sneak into my room at night. Yes, I want Remon-chan. No wait, I don’t want Remon-chan. The trial was the most fun one I played from this month, with a simplistic layout and lots of ero comedy. There’s even a new way to call your older brother: niicha! So cute! I’d love to live in that home… doridori~♪ Sora and Miyako are so cute! Especially Miyako with that oversized hat! Hau omochikaeri~!!!

Sometimes Micchi scares me.

ROOT DOUBLE -Before Crime * After Days-

Company: イエティ (YETI)
Game site: ルートダブル – Before Crime * After Days –
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
This is the all-ages port of the Xbox360 game by YETI. At 6:19 in the morning on September 16, 2030, an enormous nuclear accident occurred at the lakeside research facility LABO (6th Laboratory of Atomic and Biological Organization) in Kanarashi, trapping 9 individuals underground. The exits were tightly locked due to a security malfunction and many mysterious phenomena keep happening and the survivors begin to die one by one. There are two routes to the story: the leader of the rescue team Watase who lost his memories, and a high school student Natsuhiko. With the knowledge of both sides, will it be possible for all 9 of them to escape safely?

The console game had a good reception, so if you didn’t play it, now’s a good chance to do so. Is it just me or are there a lot of people losing their memories this month?

Since it is a port this is one of those games where you probably already know if you are interested in it so not a whole lot to say, other than it doesn’t appeal to me in any way shape or form so I’ll be passing.

Tsukumo no Kanade ~Kaketsuki no Nocturne~

Company: SkyFish
Game site: 九十九の奏~欠け月の夜想曲~
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Hifumi returned to his hometown Tsuzuraori-chou with his friends Aina and Touma for the summer to help with the town revitalization project. The town has a few legends associated to it, one of which is the tsukumogami, spirits that reside in old items. They bestow blessings to humans in exchange for their memories and life span. And during the night with the ‘broken moon’ which happens once every hundred years, those that are haunted by the tsukumogami will be taken by it to the world of the dead.

He thought that this was merely a fairy tale, until he met a ghastly girl wrapped entirely in bandages who said she had been waiting for him even if he forgot about her. She gave the tsukumogami Hakujasei to him, and it morphed into a giant snake and attacked him. Cornered, he was saved by another girl with a handgun tsukumogami, Fusehime. Afterwards, Fusehime revealed that she did not have any memories of her past, except that she made a promise to protect someone.

From the trial, it seems pretty easy to get bad ends. The game has a nice mysterious feel and has pseudo animation. I think there’s quite some potential here. It almost feels like an AkatsukiWorks game in terms of its presentation and characters (Kuicchi Touma I’m looking at you). Tama-chan is so kawaii~ I really love her speech!

Games like this always make me feel bad for the primary heroine, if you choose anyone else it feels like you are betraying the character who cares about the protagonist most, in this case it would seem she gave up a lot for his sake.. That feeling alone puts me off from this game, though they may find some way to twist things around to be happy somehow but that would lose the feeling the theme gives so I’m sure if I would prefer that sort of end. Still since it is a slow month I think this may be worth at least looking at as there is nothing that screams terrible.

Tsujidou-san no Junai Road

Company: みなとカーニバル (Minato Carnival)
Game site: 辻堂さんの純愛ロード
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
This is the first game by Minato Soft’s sister company, Minato Carnival. Hiroshi was a student at Inamura Gakuen in Kanagawa Shounan and became interested in his deliquent classmate Tsujidou-san after seeing her help a kitty in the rain. But everyone around her are also deliquents, including her rivals Maki and Renna. The life of an ordinary guy like him just got a lot more troubled!

Delinquents everywhere and most of them are idiots (but kind at heart). The trial was pretty fun to read, with nice pacing as Majikoi. It’s comedic and uses gap moe as a selling point. If you get to know the heroines well, maybe Ai will dye her hair black for you, or Renna will let her hair down. Not a bad pickup for a comedy this month.

The Delinquent girl who puts up a front seems to be a common theme these days and I was wondering how long it would be before it started appearing in proper eroge. Since it is something sorta new and Minato is involved I’ll risk looking forward to this game, if for nothing else than the comedy that should make reading a pleasant and relaxing break during spare time.

Ano Ko wa Ore Kara Hanarenai

Company: 戯画 (GIGA)
Game site: 彼女(あのコ)はオレからはなれない
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
On his first day since transferring to Shihouin Gakuen, Hiroto happened to watch a girl confess to her senpai in the courtyard. He wondered if this was what a riajuu was like. “Do you envy them so much?” Next to him was a blushing girl who then offered to make him into a riajuu, which he said yes to in surprise. But how does one become a riajuu? Make friends and go out together? Or be all lovey-dovey with a girl? Is it possible for them to be like that?

Lots of socially awkward girls who have no friends in part due to their quirks. They all gather together in the rinjinbu kaikakubu which aims to reform people into riajuus. Obviously this is pretty much a parody of Haganai and the game is targeted at ‘light users’. Typical motemote guy, a Meat clone and (someone else’s) imouto who pretends to be chuuni. Nothing out of the ordinary here – I like Momiji the most since she’s the most normal (and is an imouto). However, I wished they worked on their system more. The zoomed-in sprites and backgrounds are fuzzy, and the mouth movements do not fit the voicing (it’s way too fast). If you didn’t know already, the art isn’t by Kantoku. It’s just a clone (Usume Shirou / Niro), just like almost everything else in this game.

What does this make, two or was it three now? Not surprising a popular series would earn eroge spinoffs but it does surprise me how blatant they are about it. I think that in the process of translating something to deliberately fill the shoes of another persons story a lot of what originally made it appealing is lost. Much of what remains for an eroge so clearly based upon another series comes down to H scenes using the character designs you enjoyed from the original, which I can’t help but feel is in bad taste personally. Lengthy full color and voiced H doujin for people who cant get enough of the series I suppose.

Yasashii Mahou no Tonaekata

Company: Felicia
Game site: 優しい魔法の唱え方
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
New release date after being pushed back from August. This is the debut title for Felicia. Even though Tsukasa lives in a world where magic is recognized, he still doubts its existence since he had not seen it with his own very eyes. One day, the magic club and science club at his school had an argument, ended up with a competition where the loser would have to disband their club. The magic club believes in magic which grants wishes, while the science club believes that one must gradually work towards realizing their wishes. Tsukasa thought that even though their methods were different, in the end it was all about fulfilling one’s dream. He was asked by his osananajimi Ibuki to help out the science club, but that’s when he met Mashiro who was a true magician.

While the company is new, the scenario writer is tiro (Purple Software) and the artists are Akino Takehiko (NekoNekoSoft) and Mutsumi Masato (WHITESOFT, ALICESOFT). This means that the story is likely to be hit-or-miss, but with Samoto Fuuri voicing main heroine Mashiro, maybe I need to check this out just for that… And of course, there’s magic. Magic always makes things better.

When you run out of ideas, just add magic to spice up your standard love comedy eroge. Since that isn’t enough though you need conflict, why not use science to represent the opposite? Without something more than just magic to stand out against the competition using an otherwise plain and average game to promote your company for future releases is not such a good idea. Chances are though that unless you like the characters there wont be much worth reading here as the themes are superficial at best.

They really need to fix this and the bouncing tachi-e.

Ryuusei no Arcadia

Company: だんでらいおん (Dandelion)
Game site: 流星のアーカディア
Release date: September 28, 2012 Delayed to October 26, 2012
Comments:
Due to repeated mis-governance, the central government lost its power and it was instead transferred completely to the hands of the regional schools. This in turn led to a struggle for power among the schools, with the government sending spies to each school with the intention of re-obtaining some of its lost power. There was a particular school which did not strive for power and was on good terms with the government, however it was hiding a large secret. It had the ability to destroy the world. The government found out about this and plotted to take the ‘school’s treasure’. What exactly is this treasure and who is the mysterious transfer student?

Power corrupts everything, so it doesn’t really matter who’s in power. The setting is just a way to give purpose to the students battling. If you hadn’t guessed already, this is yet another chuuni game. There’s a haraguro loli that will do anything for money. I’m not really sure why the OP is Western-themed. Watch the ‘school’s treasure’ be like eternal friendship or something. Actually, I wouldn’t mind that too much, but I can hear Zen cringing over there already.

Why would people trust random idiotic kids with government? Such an act of mental retardation would make socialism or even communism look appealing by contrast. When a game has a plot this stupid I find myself at a complete loss of words and just wondering how many hits to the head with a bat it took to come up with this, and how many more it would take to enjoy reading it.

Ryuuyoku no Melodia -Diva with the blessed dragonol-

Company: Whirlpool
Game site: 竜翼のメロディア -Diva with the blessed dragonol-
Release date: September 28, 2012
Comments:
Over a thousand years ago, there was a large battle against an evil dragon. With the help of a holy dragon, they managed to defeat it, and then founded the Kingdom of Vestoria. The princess’ song has the power to grant miracles and as such, people who engage in music are highly respected in the country. Lute is a student at the prestigious Ertmail Music Academy, where young people gather to pursue their dreams of becoming a musician. One day, he met a mysterious girl in the street and ended up spending the day with her. Before leaving, she said that they will meet again. He was about to have dinner with his imouto Mel when he heard a loud noise outside. There was a giant hole in his garden and in the middle of it was a small dragon.

Your usual Whirlpool chara-ge with cute charas, Komowata SDs, fantasy story elements and not too deep of a story. That’s not a bad thing, per se. Imouto Mel is adorable, the Spyro clone Dora is loveable, and I love the fact that you can save voice clips to replay later! The protagonist Lute hits on any female, as to him there’s only three things in life: desire for food, desire for sleep, and desire for sex. Mel’s getting jealous over there~

If Whirlpool could muster up some better writers they would make decent charage. Their only problem is how tiresome their pacing becomes with such lackluster stories. I wonder if maybe they forget they are just writing a charage with some unique charm and not a full fledged story as they do seem to try at least, they just lack the ability to make the story worthwhile. I’ll give you an A for effort on stories Whirlpool but next time try to get rid of the unnecessary story, and your games might actually be enjoyable beyond the characters.

Micchi’s Top 3 for This Month

  1. Pure Girl
  2. LOVELY QUEST
  3. Tsuisou no Augment

Zen’s Top 3 for This Month

  1. Tsukumo no Kanade ~Kaketsuki no Nocturne~
  2. Tsujidou-san no Junai Road
  3. Zero Infinity -Devil of Maxwell-

It says a lot when the game you want to play most is a nukige. October can’t come soon enough.

It says even more when you are limited to three games. For myself however its nice to actually be able to list a few games instead of just not wanting anything to do with a single title all month.

Tsujidou Main Heroine kinda reminds me with Ryuuzaki Reina from yandere Kanojo

Reblogged this on Visual Novel Aer and commented:
Some reason nothing catches my eye. 「Root Double」 September 28th — GundamAce says it is Excellent. Equally as good as Ever17 if not better.

Am I the only one having high expectations on Root Double here?
After all it’s ported to PC with merely 3 1/2 months after the console release, and Nakazawa Takumi’s games never disappoint (except there is always someone with amnesia in his games)

There’s pretty high demand for a Root Double TL as well, so I also have high expectations.

Aside from that, I suppose I’ll check out Pure Girl and maybe Fuuri Samoto game.

You’re throwing around random Japanese terms without explaining them. For example, what does chuuni mean? Judging on the context you used the word in, my best guess is that it means an awesome manly visual novel because you said that about all the coolest games.

A month with a lot of chuuni you say? Floats my boat fine as last month pretty much only had Tokyo Babel to fit that criteria. Looks like it’s going to be yet another fun month, I’ll be having a field day with most of the games I guess, though I expect a some to be landmines.

Actually, this month’s of visual novels grasp my attention a lot unlike other previous months. I’m most interested in Sinclient and Root Double. I actually do like Steins;Gate storytelling though (despite the problems addressed) so I’m definitely looking forward to anything involving him. Root Double sounds immensely promising too.

I’m not brave enough for lovely quest…

Other than that, tried the trial for that gate defending job, I didn’t do too well either haha. Hoping to redeem myself in the actual release.

Tsukumo no Kanade… I was so eager before playing the trial, but honestly it was so bad I was like “no thank you”. Though, it actually looks good again when the month’s this bad, at least pretty art is pretty.
And another Kantoku clone, I think I’ll start listing them.

There’s Root Double and… nothing else interesting enough.

Well, nothing to read this month unless I get in the mood to re-read Root Double.

I saw Root Double and double-taked. Mikeou art in a grimdark game!? Whaaaaa!?

And Suzu from Pure Girl makes you wonder how she’s lived so long without being randomly gangraped or coaxed into a hotel by balding salarymen.

Did you guys played Kamidere demo? I would like to know if this is one of those games where the main character is a useless bastard that is only good to make the heroines look charismatic and intelligent in comparison. At least, it seems that way in your description.

@Jesus Christ: Chuuni is short for chuunibyou, which is basically when people believe they have special powers and act the part. I pretty much use the same terms over and over, so if you don’t know the meaning of some of them, just ask (or google).

@Benedict: They’re all pretty useless in my opinion.
