April 2018 Eroge Releases

April 1, 2018 at 5:05 am 12 comments

CIRCUS is still following the chara-ge template with their latest title, Tenpure!!. If you want something a bit more from another world, check out Palette’s sequel 9-nine- Sorairo Sorauta Soranooto or Liar-soft’s Shunkyoku no Tyrhhia ~What a beautiful dawn~. There’s also more SMEE hijinks in their fandisc Making*Lovers Geki Icha After Story Vol01!

Not a great month, but a month. A few choice eroge nuggets sandwiched between imouto and cat eared gimmicks.

9-nine- Sorairo Sorauta Soranooto

Company: ぱれっと (Palette)
Game site: 9-nine-そらいろそらうたそらのおと
Release date: April 27, 2018
This is the second episode of 9-nine. When the university town of Shiromitsugawa was struck by a large earthquake, the sacred treasure in the Hakuda Tsukumo Shrine was damaged and mysterious objects called ‘artifacts’ began to appear from a parallel world. These artifacts granted special abilities to those that possessed them.

There was an incident where someone abused these powers and turned people into stone. Kakeru, who has a strong sense of responsibility, lent his assistance to Miyako in seeking the culprit. His innocent imouto Sora also joins them in the investigation into the serial petrification incidents as they unveil a mysterious group and hidden feelings.

This episode is dedicated to pure imouto Sora, voiced by Kiritani Hana. I wonder if this will focus less on the actual story unlike Miyako’s arc, since Sora doesn’t really seem to fit in (other than her own artifact). But she’s a good character and the game’s cheap, so why not try it out. There’s still two more episodes left for Haruka and Noa.

These episodic single heroine games are starting to get on my nerves. While I can understand the reasons for their continued existence I am completely unable to accept it. From my perspective at least I am not about to sit around twiddling my thumbs at the clouds to be sure I remember the characters and story of a sub-par porn fan-fiction from months ago. Maybe I will like a character, maybe I would like the story or the routes or the setting, but I cannot possibly care after the huge breaks. By the time the next installment comes along there will be better complete games to waste my time on, where I can follow the route of characters I may not have known I wanted to, right when I feel like it and it is still relevant to my interests.

Making*Lovers Geki Icha After Story Vol.01

Company: SMEE
Game site: Making*Lovers 激イチャアフターストーリー Vol.01
Release date: April 27, 2018
This is the first of two mini fandiscs for Making*Lovers, with after stories for Ako, Saki and Karen. There’s a choice of changing their hair styles. More SMEE? YES YES YES!

Koneko Neko Neko

Company: SkyFish poco
Game site: こねこねこねこ
Release date: April 27, 2018
New release date after being pushed back from December. Haruta came to an old village where you couldn’t walk anywhere without seeing a cat. Due to a stroke of bad luck, he couldn’t stay at the apartment that he had reserved, but fortunately he was able to find a place to live in a small house called Nekohana-kan. The rent was free, but he had to agree to take care of the kittens.

However, instead of cats there were three nekomimi girls waiting for him. As their master, he must support them so that they can live in the human world: that is, he must choose one of them to marry. Moreover, he had lost all his memories before that day.

Make sure you read your rental agreements carefully or else you’ll be paying for it for the rest of your life! That being said, the nekomimi heroines are cute, so I wouldn’t mind having them around. There isn’t much more to the game than what’s on the cover, although I’m quite puzzled by the catchphrase: “A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays”.

Another one of those games where the situation compels girls to fall into the lap of our “Unlucky” protagonist. Cat ears included free of charge this time. Basically just a gimmick for cat girls.

I don’t think there’s been a catgirl game in a while. We’re overdue.

Nekopara 4, wherefore art thou?

Isn’t that one for the imouto?

Yeah, I heard it is going to take a darker turn, where they kick her out to bring in more cats.

Oh, the humanity!

Sono Taiju wa Makai o Kurau!

Company: ソフトハウスキャラ (SofthouseChara)
Game site: その大樹は魔界を喰らう!
Release date: April 27, 2018
The reign of the demon king Hadasht was a calm and peaceful one. His governance was welcomed by most as it healed the scars of the Great War that preceeded it. So when news of his death spread across the land, it was met with surprise, sadness and grief. Yet there were some who smiled with glee as he had not named a successor prior to his death.

It soon became apparent that a struggle for power would break out between the ten largest demon families. At the sign of impending chaos, ambitious individuals took advantage of the situation to begin selling their services for a better life. Fabio is a young man with these aspirations, but he was turned away every time. This was because he was incubus who was viewed to think with his lower body and corrupts public morals with his presence alone. Despite these harsh words, he pressed on and finally was taken in by Primtine, the lowest ranked of the ten demons vying for the throne. He vowed loyalty to her and swore to make her the new demon king by any means possible.

Softhouse Chara SLG. Move a giant tree castle with mana. Build stuff, set traps, defend against enemies. You know the drill.

I am lazy. The most effort I want in an eroge is sit back in my comfy chair, tucked into a warm blanket along with a tasty beverage while I lazily press a single button to whip the text into moving along to the next scene. About the only interaction I approve of as a benefit to this experience is the addition of some oiled up slave girls feeding me grapes while pressing said button for me. If I wish to get off my lazy bum and do something, or at least while still at the computer, I would go play a real game. The end.

Company: CIRCUS
Game site: てんぷれっ!!
Release date: April 27, 2018
Every work of fiction will features clichés. However, Sora happened to be a magnet for clichéd characters and situations. After waking up with his osananajimi asleep next to him, he’d bump into a girl with a slice of toast in her mouth on his way to school, only to find out that she’s the new transfer student in his class. To top it off, he found her in his house upon returning home… she was actually his little sister-in-law! When he thought he was being driven out from his own home, he caught a maid who descended from the sky, only to touch her breasts. And of course, it was witnessed by the strict class rep who gave him a hard slap. Just how many clichés can one take!?

CIRCUS is doing what they do best: template characters in template situations. There’s no problem with that if it’s entertaining and maybe offers just something slightly different from the next title. Each of the heroine routes is written by a different scenario writer. Shio is THE imouto chara: she made a childhood promise to marry her nii-san, is not honest with her feelings, and has deadly cooking skills. She also ticks off all of my fav outfits, namely a beret and plenty of ribbons, plus she’s voiced by Akino Hana. Hau~ omochikaeri~!

Circus’s attempt at trying to figure out what the hell they are going to do now that the D.C II cow is out of milk and nothing has been working. Not much else too it, throw every possible option they can at us, evaluate the feedback, do next game better based on what parts of this buckshot bukkakery of cliche charage hit or miss.

Nyanto Suteki na Natsuiro Days

Company: MOONSTONE Honey
Game site: にゃんと素敵な夏色デイズ
Release date: April 27, 2018
Natsuki works on the large resort AQUA that covers an entire island. One day, he was put in charge of renewal of the indoor pool area, which was the least popular attraction despite its past popularity. He worked hard with the staff to meet the manager’s expectations, but no matter how hard they tried, they still couldn’t rise up from the bottom. It was at that time when ‘strong’ reinforcements appeared in the form of three nekomimi girls Mikan, Lime and Lemon, who came to live with Natsuki to repay him for his kindness. Will their help be enough to bring the indoor pool area back to its glory days?

After playing both trials with nekomimi girls, this one comes out ahead by a bit. It’s not that the story is much deeper, but I like these nyankos more, especially the pure and cheerful Mikan, and the cool and curious Lime. Did I also mention there’s a bracon imouto Suzuka who just shows up at your house one day (and gets into total misunderstanding off the bat)? It almost makes me feel like it’s the happy summer in the midst of this dreary weather outside.

Pimping out the cat ears for pool sales.

A tried and true strategy.

Momoiro Closet

Company: フロントウイング (FrontWing)
Game site: ももいろクローゼット
Release date: April 27, 2018
Alice is a model student and the president of the student council. As the daughter of a National Diet member, she has a reputation to keep up, both in terms of looks and grades. Compared to average joe Reiji, she’s like a being from another dimension. The two would have absolutely nothing in common… were it not for the one strange bond they share: a shared love of a Sunday morning magical girl anime, aimed at little kids.

When Reiji happens to find out that Alice is a hardcore fan of the show, Alice’s overactive imagination leads her to believe that Reiji is trying to blackmail her! Despite Reiji’s best efforts to clear up the misunderstanding, it only seems to get worse, and the situation spirals further and further out of control!

One day, their conversation takes a weird turn, and Alice ends up heading over to Reiji’s house to cosplay. But once she dons her costume, she’s overcome by some new, naughty urges… and she decides to explore those feelings together with Reiji, her one otaku friend.

You can choose between the romantic and perverted routes for the single heroine Alice in this low-priced title. Since it was a Kickstarter project, you could get it in English as well via Steam. This one’s got pretty straightforward appeal to otakus and ecchi play. The trial was surprisingly better than I expected.

While the choice in route for a single heroine isn’t a bad concept, the rest of this game can go back in the closet. Essentially suffers from the same issue most eroge that come in English do. That is they are forced to or chosen to cater towards your average steam weeb. To avoid this being a long rant, just go to steam and look at most of those games, cringe, then think about how, why, and what sucks about anything acknowledging such beings exist. Now if this has been achieved read back over the summary and reconsider what is wrong here. Not to say this may not be the worst of the lot as I actually think it is probably the best of all similar games that have included English.

God Sisters

Company: MONAKO
Game site: ゴッドシスターズ
Release date: April 27, 2018
The coffee shop Corleone is the oldest one in the shopping district. However, chain shops have popped up in recent years and the shop has fallen into financial trouble. Leo’s father, the shop owner, was blessed with a son and four daughters, but he became divorced when the children were still young. Leo left with his mother, while his sisters were raised by his father.

Ten years after being separated from his sisters, he suddenly received news that his father didn’t have long to live. When he returned to his hometown, there was a letter addressed to him from his father. It asked him to take over the coffee shop Corleone.

Leo was reluctant to do it, but for the time being while awaiting his father’s funeral, he would stay with his sisters that he hadn’t seen for a long time. They also had conflicting feelings about the shop’s future: Ami and Yuu wanted to carry on, while Riko and Ria didn’t have any interest in doing so.

Looks like a nukige, but I had to include it because it’s got godly imoutos.

Tuck the sisters in nice and snug with duct tape. Light shop on fire. Collect insurance. Win game.

Shunkyoku no Tyrhhia ~What a beautiful dawn~

Company: ライアーソフト (Liar-soft)
Game site: 瞬旭のティルヒア ~What a beautiful dawn~
Release date: April 27, 2018 Delayed to May 25, 2018
It was the third year of the Bunkyu era and the skies of Edo were dark. In the short ten years after Japan ended its isolationist foreign policy, Edo had been thoroughly transformed into a n ‘Engine City’ due to the arrival of steam engine technology from the strange land of Kadath via the West.

The young Shingyoto-ryuu swordsman Hachirou was given a secret order one day to pick up a package from Nobutomo, a great swordsman admired by both his older brother and uncle, in Shimoda and deliver it to Kyoto. It was a large box that resembled an ‘iron maiden’. While he was perplexed by its looks, he was more astonished when a doll-like petite girl came out from it.

The latest in Liar-soft’s steampunk series, with a return of Gahkthun‘s Tesla. I don’t have much else to say about it since it just doesn’t appeal to me.

My usual complaints about Liarsoft are about their writing letting down the characters and stories. In this case however the whole thing is rather uninteresting. There’s little to no real feeling of investment or necessity in the setting, the characters and their story feels just kind of arbitrary, there for the sake of being there. In other words the whole thing is strangely bland for a liar game. Better luck next time I guess.

Onee-chan no Yuuwaku

Company: hibiki works
Game site: 如月真綾の誘惑(おねえちゃんのゆうわく)
Release date: April 27, 2018
Yuu’s older sister Maaya is quite popular, being both beautiful and friendly. He is proud of her, and likewise she cherishes him as her little brother. However, after a certain chance happening, her frequent teasings became naughty temptations. Her actions became increasingly bold and he had no choice but to follow along. However, there were no worries about their indecent relationship; instead, it was a enjoyable happy time with his dear onee-chan.

No incest drama in this low-priced game. Just some quality family skinship.

Proof that older sisters are better than younger ones.

Yuusha to Maou to, Majo no Cafe

Company: MintCUBE
Game site: 勇者と魔王と、魔女のカフェ
Release date: April 27, 2018
Filiaswald is governed by the goddess of light Aria and the goddess of darkness Anri. There was once a long war between light and darkness, which culminated in a single battle between the hero Fiona and the demon king Astaroth. However, no one knew how it ended as both vanished without a trace.

Ten years later, a young man with no recollection of his past wandered through the forest. He arrived at a small coffee shop and inn, Café Sorcière, where three witches-in-training (earnest but gullible Rufuna, small yet motherly Candy, and taciturn and lazy Eliya) happily worked for the polite yet super innocent owner Assam. They gave him the name ‘Tarou’ and got him to work at the café while he regained his memories.

Every day was full of interesting events: incidents ending up in compromising positions, helping people in need, going on adventures… event fighting with monsters!? He would befriend Apple, a girl from a nearby town who would later be a regular customer, as well as the miniature forest faerie Pecoe. He no longer worried about his forgotten past when the present is so full of happiness.

However, Tarou started to see recurring dreams of fighting with the demon king and the hero attacking the demon king’s castle. When he woke up, he would have not recollection of the dreams. As he gradually began to show signs of change, the girls around him are caught in the large whirlpool of fate…

Magic and cafés got hand-in-hand, but I’m unsure how well Kanan Ren will do on the scenario as their previous works have all been loli-ge for Tanuki Soft. I won’t put too much expectation on this aside from being a chara-ge with a magic twist.

I cannot help but feel the characters and story would have been better suited towards a pure comedy type game with an emphasis on general silliness. Trying to create more depth with an amnesiac protagonist having recollections of and old war just feels so out of place with the general feel. Should have just had guy, cafe, girls, magic, and thus hijinks ensue.

Micchi’s Top 3 for This Month

  1. Tenpure!!
  2. Making*Lovers Geki Icha After Story Vol01
  3. Nyanto Suteki na Natsuiro Days

Zen’s Top 3 for This Month

  1. Onee-chan no Yuuwaku
  2. Making*Lovers Geki Icha After Story Vol.01
  3. Cat ears on my monitor.

If I had to choose between magic and cats, I’d probably go with the magic. Unless they’re magical cats.

If eroge teaches us anything, cat ears make everything better.

Softhouse Chara haven’t chosen their Heaven vs. Hell timeline for a game for a while now, so I’m interested to see what the storyline is like for what is admittedly another of their Tower Defence games ala Suzukuri Dragon and the more recent Yuushahou.

  • 2. kzel  |  April 1, 2018 at 9:42 am

I wasn’t interested in anything but Onee-chan no Yuuwaku this month, but Michi’s comment about Shio in てんぷれっ!! got my curiosity piqued as it strikes my interest zones as well (ribbons, Akino Hana, tsundere), so maybe this one as well, for nostalgia’s sake.

Thank god there’s so much games in march to keep me busy for two month, cause april’s release is just…meh

  • 4. Loki  |  April 3, 2018 at 9:37 am

why you or no one choose 9-nine episode 2 as a recommendation this month? well, after playing the trial i began to questioning the series itself but it still can be a recommendation for this month

    • 5. Micchi  |  April 5, 2018 at 12:50 am

It just wasn’t among the top games this month that I personally wanted to play. That’s all. Everyone will have their own list and I think it’d be a good choice.

  • 6. bad  |  April 4, 2018 at 7:34 pm

i’m bad at playing vns, help
i saw Micchi going Hiyori route first in Karigurashi have a number of scenes there, but when I look in the walkthrough http://seiya-saiga.com/game/asa-pro/karigurashi.html it says i could finish the whole Ayaka route (up to save#3) before I would even get an opportunity to go for Hiyori (from save#4).
How is so? Am i supposed to choose whatever those first 3 saves if i want to skip Ayaka for now or what?

    • 7. Micchi  |  April 5, 2018 at 12:48 am

There are no locked routes, so you can do them in any order you like. You’re not obliged to follow the save order; it just might help if you intend to do multiple routes and don’t want to start from scratch after each route. For Karigurashi, the choices are straightforward enough that it doesn’t really matter.

There is never enough Onee-chans so I`m in for Onee-chan no Yuuwaku… But this month is pretty bad overall

  • 10. sinkme  |  April 30, 2018 at 8:03 pm

I want to get the onee-chan one but their site is forbidden for some reason. Anyone else?

  • 11. Fiona  |  May 2, 2018 at 12:36 am

Oh man, the amount of Mangagamer/Sekai Project’s translation on steam is terrible.
It might be suitable for people who don’t understand Japanese at all, but when you can listen and read the voice and lines, it becomes clear how far their translations are off at times. It’s like they had interns work on it.

    • 12. Micchi  |  May 2, 2018 at 12:54 am

Yeah, that’s usually the case and it is their market after all (and they can get away with it). I didn’t check the English version since it’s just odd for me to play in anything but Japanese.
