Saimoe 2010 Main Draw
It’s that time you’ve all been waiting for! The main draw portion of Saimoe 2010 is now underway! You can check out the draw at the synchroom. Of course, this is the time for us to make our predictions for each block. Here’s hoping that I do better than the 3/8 from last year. A reminder for those just joining in that the format is now different with four-way matches in the first round, followed by three-way matches in the second round. Whether or not this will give an advantage to popular series will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The first few matches aren’t too interesting with Yuno being the favorite in the top third. Interesting point is Irie’s match is on the same day as Yuri in Block B, however I still don’t think that Yuno will lose. However, the most anticipated match will be between Nadeko and Yui. I’m really hoping that Nadeko pulls through, but I’m fine with either. This will gauge the strengths of both series. Karen should benefit from having matches on the same day as Shinobu.
Hirasawa Yui (K-ON!!) over Yuno (Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆) and Sanzenin Nagi (Hayate no Gotoku!!)
Loli Nanoha returns with a not-so-easy first round bout with Rin. Waiting for her in the second round will probably be Mayoi and Kana, representing two top tier series she will have to beat to get far in this tourney. Shana will have to prove that her prelim victory is a true measure of her power. I’m going with Nanoha for their inevitable block finals, but it’s pretty much a coin toss.
Takamachi Nanoha (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha) over Shana (Shakugan no Shana S) and Saginomiya Isumi (Hayate no Gotoku!!)
A very interesting block with Tacos and Hamster facing off in the first match. This will set the tone for this Hayate and Saki heavy block. Uiharu and Kuroko have matches on the same day and it will boost both of their votes. In the second round, it’s quite possible that we can have an all-Saki matchup with Captain, Hajime and Nodocchi. I think split votes won’t be the undoing of the Saki faction and go with Tacos as the block winner. I could be totally wrong though.
Kataoka Yuuki (Saki) over Uiharu Kazari (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) and Fukuji Mihoko (Saki)
The most important match is B2-1 where Koromo, Kuroko and Kyou are almost definitely going to clash. Kuroko has the chance to pull off the ‘upset’. It’ll be really close. In a head-to-head of childish characters, Koromoe would top Aka-chan. Don’t worry, there’s lots of Usamaru to comfort her with.
Amae Koromo (Saki) over Sakurano Kurimu (Seitokai no Ichizon) and Hiro (Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆)
All eyes are on Yuki and Haruhi’s highly anticipated rematch. However, Yuki will have to get through Tenshi first, while Haruhi needs to avoid an upset at the hands of Komoe in the first round. So who will win their rematch? I’m calling neither since split votes will lift Aoi to a narrow win. Poor Shuri T___T
Yamada Aoi (Working!!) over Nagato Yuki (The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi) and Suzumiya Haruhi (The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi)
What an interesting block with some highlight matches (Yui/Mahiru, Mafuyu/Hinagiku, Minatsu/Ritsu) coupled with 2nd prelim free-for-alls. Is this Hina’s year? With Saki weakened, she’ll probably make the third round, but that’s when the going gets tough. Hinagiku, Yui and Hitagi both finished in the top 2 in their respective prelim groups, so this will be a block final to remember.
Katsura Hinagiku (Hayate no Gotoku!!) over Yui (Angel Beats!) and Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari)
There shouldn’t be many surprises here, with Poplar and Momoko being the wildcards. If either can get by Azunyan, it will boost Mio’s chances a lot. However, as things look right now, Biribiri will have the advantage even without taking split votes into account.
Misaka Mikoto (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) over Nakano Azusa (K-ON!!) and Akiyama Mio (K-ON!!)
First of all, why are Mikan and Yami always in the same match? The match to watch is H05 (Rena vs Tsumugi). Will Rena be able to take more girls home or will she be caught in Mugi’s sights? Looking forward to a rematch between Fate and Fumino. Will strategic votes come into play here?
Fate Testarossa (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha) over Saten Ruiko (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) and Serizawa Fumino (Mayoi Neko Overrun!)
