Welcome to 2010!
With another year in the books (the first full one for this blog), I’m looking forward to more of the same in this coming year. But before that, I want to take some time to look back on what has been an eventful 2009 for me and Hau~ Omochikaeri~!.
New Year’s Resolutions
If you were around a year ago, you may remember that I had made some New Year’s resolutions and looking back, I think I did relatively well. Since I work full time now, I have less time to write on the blog, but I still try to maintain the weekly news and monthly releases posts because I enjoy writing them up. Consequently, I’ve stopped playing MMOs (not before getting Master of Fishing title on Fiorella) and now sleep earlier (when I have work the next day). Personally, I’m not sure if I’ve gotten better regarding procrastination. I had planned to write this post so that it would be up at midnight, but that didn’t quite pan out since I was too busy playing Final Dragon Chronicle the past few days. Maybe it isn’t MMOs, but RPGs that are the problem… Hmm… All in all, I feel like I’ve definitely grown as a person and become more responsible. Who knows what else this year will hold in store in terms of career or life changes.
On the anime-related front, I still never managed to finish one anime series. The reason for this was mainly because eroge held precedence. Not only did I make my goal of completing a route, I managed to finish entire games, including Tenshin Ranman, Natsuyume Nagisa, Flyable Heart and Hoshizora no Memoria. Playing through routes for characters that are not necessarily among my favorites has opened my eyes to different scenarios.
What about this year? I’ll keep it simple and try to finish and review one eroge per month.
Blog Changes Over the Past Year
2009 has also been a transition year for Hau~ Omochikaeri~! While I had started writing monthly eroge previews since October 2008, the blog was still mainly devoted to Mabinogi. Interestingly, it might have been burnout after writing the epic Pioneers of Iria overview series that there began a shift towards eroge instead. With the blog’s goals changing to providing information about upcoming eroge to English speakers, many additions were introduced to the site. The eroge section was restructured and a company list added (although I still need to write the actual eroge definition…). The reviews were organized so they were comparable. Other features introduced are: recent news widget, Twitter (mainly random stuff), webclaps (responses are on the weekly posts), monthly release playlists on Youtube and Livestream gameplay channel.
The first resemblance to an eroge news post started in January, but wasn’t made into a weekly installment until late April. Now it’s the main thing that I work on every week. While the focus is on everything eroge, such as upcoming games, console ports, anime adaptations and merchandise, other news about anime, manga, music, figures and random stuff are also included. It’s something that I enjoy writing in my spare time and I hope you all find the news informative and/or interesting.
Convincing Zen to come join me in late March worked out really well since he brought a new perspective (mainly a negative one) that made things a lot more interesting. He plays a different genre of eroge than I do, and I feel that this benefited our readers. Having him help out on the monthly previews is also very enjoyable. I hope this year will be just as fun.
Of course, there’s still other stuff, like our thoughts about each anime season, the “anime on air” widget for easy checking, figure posts and Saimoe. Oh Saimoe, that was a blast. If I have time, I’ll definitely do it again this year. I wish Nemuiwanko wasn’t as busy so he can join in our antics.
Remember, we’re always open to comments or suggestions as to how to make the blog better for you! Here’s to another exciting year of eroge! May there be more awesome imoutos~
