October 2009 Eroge Releases

October 1, 2009 at 12:01 am 17 comments

This month is arguably the best this year, with solid titles from new companies and popular makers alike. The greatly hyped Osananajimi wa Daitouryou should be a great pickup for anyone in search of a comedic game. Even with the delay of Hidamari Basket, I still have five games that I consider must-play and they all come out on the same day. What do I play first…!?

Definitely a good month, with so many games that have potential to be great stories coming out. Ah the love hate relationship I have with good months always gets to me. So much to play and never enough time to play it all.

Sora o Tobu, Nanatsume no Mahou

Company: La’cryma (ラクリマ)
Game site: 空を飛ぶ、7つ目の魔法。
Release date: October 2, 2009
This is the sequel to Sora o Tobu, Mittsu no Houhou, although you do not need to play the original in order to enjoy this game. The characters are the same as the first game with the exception of a new mysterious student Karin who declares that she is a magician. The protagonist was told that if he doesn’t learn how to fly within a month, he will die. It seems that this will mostly just be a dotabata heartful comedy ADV. I really like the art; It seems they got some CIRCUS artists on board. La’cryma isn’t known for their scenario writing though.

Have not played the first game though the OP cameraman needs to learn how to zoom out. The way it zooms in and only shows small glimpses to not give you the full scope and feel kind of annoyed me a little. Anyway the premise of the plot is well… quite frankly… retarded. I have no problems with the death in X amount of time, whether it is possible to cancel it or not, but the flying bit comes off as just plain cheesy. Put a little more thought into the plot and then I’ll consider it.

Coμ -Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku-

Company: 暁WORKS (Akatsuki Works)
Game site: コミュ―黒い竜と優しい王国―
Release date: October 22, 2009
There is a legend in the town about a siren ‘Girl A’. On the night of destiny, Akihito meets 4 others who have nothing in common and they band together to form ‘Coμ’ and they can control a giant black mecha dragon ‘avatar’ called Babylon. Well, it’s obvious that I’m not really a fan of the action genre or mecha, but if you’re interested in that, Akatsuki Works’ games won’t disappoint you (as much as the plot sounds kinda cheesy).

Power rangers? SERIOUSLY!?! What genius thought of that brilliant idea. The concept was lame twenty years ago let alone today. Trying to sell a concept that elementary school kids find tacky as an eroge targeted at an obviously older audience just does not make sense at all to me.  Sorry to anyone who likes those things but power ranger spinoffs rank right next to sailor moon spinoffs among things I absolutely loathe.

My own personal rants against the plot and genre aside, the entire plot and storyline.. beyond being cheesy as Micchi pointed out feels completely half assed. Method and gathering is too quick easy and simplistic, even if they explain it later in detail and in a rational manner it leaves a lot to be desired. If you are a fan of mecha desperately in need of a game this month I recommend Full Metal Daemon Muramasa instead.

Admit it, you’re actually a closet Power Rangers fan, Ero Ranger Green.

I don’t even get to be Red. T_T      …. WAIT! I mean WHO is a Power Rangers fan!??!

You can be pink instead.

Ranger Pink, Shinobu reporting for duty!

Company: Armonica
Game site: Skyprythem(スカイプリズム)
Release date: October 23, 2009 Delayed to October 30, 2009
This is Armonica’s first game. Skyprythem is set in a music club where one must choose a partner (‘feather partner’) to attain their goals together. You know, that ‘birds of a feather flock together’ kind of thing. Considering that it’s about music and I like the theme, it’s something that I would consider playing. Except for the fact that there’s so many better ones this month. And Chikako’s eyes are way too big and round.

The idea of forcing a partner choice feels a bit iffy to me. I cannot say I like the idea of being forced to choose a partner, to me this makes the choices and options of the game feel as though there is an ulterior motive. Furthermore if you are into the music club type game Owarinaki is probably lightyears ahead of this game.

Love Delation!

Company: SMEE
Game site: らぶでれーしょん!
Release date: October 23, 2009
SMEE’s latest game is an ecchi pure love ADV focused around the idea of  ‘intense dere’ (激デレ). What is this you ask? When a heroine falls head over heels for our obviously motemote lucky sunuva protagonist, they will fawn over him and do anything that pleases him… like changing their hair style. The plot is a girl’s school being turned into a coed school, but the girls:boys ratio is 9:1. Pretty standard stuff. Love the catchy OP.

What is the point of dere if you don’t have to work for it… Cannot see much point to this game unless you don’t care about plot or characters at all. Sure CG may be cute and you have your typical character appearances, but without any story depth you might as well just download the CG for all of that. Bad month for a lackluster game to make an appearance, this will surely be eclipsed by far superior games this month.

In case anyone does not know yet or forgot I HATE PINK!

Hachimitsu Blossom Days

Company: ルピナス (Lupinus)
Game site: ハチミツ乙女blossomdays
Release date: October 23, 2009
This is Lupinus’ debut game. Kyousuke returns to his hometown Misora-chou after 10 years and lives with his osananajimi twins Yuki and Mizuki. They start liking him more, as do other girls at school, but they can’t summon up their courage to tell him. Similar to Love Delation, this is based around heroines who are ‘tere’ and ‘dere’, so you can enjoy seeing them all cute and flustered. I definitely would love to see a flustered Konami. Hawawa~

Feels a bit lacking for a debut game, it will be rather difficult to make an impact unless there is a lot more to the story than just cute girls moe fest. Everything about this game gives me a been there done that, no need to do over again feel. The whole point of multiple heroines is to have unique personalities and charm, not so everyone can be different in the same way. I suppose if you only like one or two traits that happen to be covered by the game then by all means this is the game for you! Otherwise embrace diversity and pick a more interesting game.

What Zen means is he wants a box of Skittles.

Indeed I do. Avoiding the game by choking to death on skittles sounds like a brilliant plan to me.

SHUFFLE! Essence+

Company: Navel
Game site: SHUFFLE! Essence+
Release date: October 30, 2009
It’s the return of Navel’s popular series SHUFFLE! This time there’s new heroines (Daisy, Tsubomi and Ruri), additional routes (Nadeshiko and possibly Kikyou), imported routes (Kareha, Sakura) and additional scenes for the original charas (Lisianthus, Nerine, Kaede, Asa, Primula). Damn, that’s a lot of routes. I’m a SHUFFLE! fan, so this one is definitely a must play and I’ve always wanted a Tsubomi route. Daisy looks great too and she follows Sia around too ^o^

Ok this is a must play for me. I did not play the original when it came out and now that there are more options I will have to play this one. Though with the sheer number of characters I have NO intention of playing all the routes. Maybe Micchi will play the routes I don’t want to for me.. since our tastes are polar opposites when it comes to Shuffle.

That’s actually a decent idea. I might take you up on that, since I have no plans to play Nerine or Asa. You can have the teacher too.

Oh sure I get three out of how many!? Well there will probably be some overlap as I am curious about kareha and a few of the other new ones I think.. I forgot who if any though.

Sakura Tale

Company: Fizz
Game site: さくらテイル
Release date: October 30, 2009
New release date after being pushed back from August. Again, this is very similar to Love Delation, with the hair/personality changing and all. Kaoruko is cute, but other than that, there’s nothing that is especially captivating. Pass.

I do agree that it does look pretty standard and in that respect a little boring and perhaps not worth the time. I also have what will most likely end up a passing interest that never comes to fruition from simple lack of time. The idea of the girls changing as things develop I find a little interesting as to just how that will be written into the storyline. If by some miracle time slows down I will check this out a little bit just to satiate my curiosity.

In case you were wondering why my comment seems off, I copy pasted it from August. Not worth the minimal time and effort that it would take to think up a new comment.

Trouble@Vampire! ~Ano Musume wa Ore no Goshujinsama~

Company: タクティクス・ラグジュアリー (Tactics Luxury)
Game site: とらぶる@ヴァンパイア!~あの娘は俺のご主人さま~
Release date: October 30, 2009
This is the first game by Tactics Luxury, a subcompany of Tactics. Ritsu is a new teacher at a prestigious ‘classical’ all-girls school. One day, he saves his students by protecting them from some magic, but ended up getting severely hurt. When he woke up, he saw a girl named Shion, who actually is a vampire. She called him her servant since she had bit him to save him from death after he had lost too much blood. Not really interested in the plot nor design, so pass.

Too much of a cute magical girl feel to take this seriously. I do have to wonder though why anything involving vampires tends to end up as either cuter than a fluffy pink kitten frolicking on a rainbow cloud or more emo than a sixteen year old middle class american kid who forgot to take their prozac.

A very valid observation. In this regard, I’d want me a nosebleeding Karin or nekomimi mode Hazuki instead.

Mashiroiro Symphony

Company: ぱれっと (Palette)
Game site: ましろ色シンフォニー
Release date: October 30, 2009
Palette’s latest game is a story about pure love: a love symphony that is pure white. Shingo is selected to join a girl’s school which recently turned co-ed. Some of the girls are strongly against this move, but will their stance change in the coming school year? The pastel art is one of the reasons I’m drawn to this game. The other reason being imouto Sakuno, voiced by Agumi Oto. I’m also interested in stray meido Angelina. Knowing that Palette has produced some games with great storylines, I’m definitely looking forward to this!

Definately Micchi’s type of game and not mine. No real problem with the premise of it, while a bit cliche it does feel comparatively well done. However on the other hand there is an obvious focus on cute things that leaves me feeling a bit of distaste. Predictability of the plot puts me off as well, feels as though the game itself is a tsundere, have to get past her dislike as though you were a skilled thief picking a lock to finally see some dere. In the end no matter how tsun they always fall so the general plot can mostly be safely assumed, minus the individual obstacles and situations.

Kiss to Maou to Darjeeling

Company: ま~まれぇど (Marmalade)
Game site: キスと魔王と紅茶(ダージリン)
Release date: October 30, 2009
Similar to the 7 school mysteries, there is a legend that there exists a maou who will appear when the flowers change color. Keiichi is approached by the school council president Sarasa, who kisses him on the lips. She declares him to be the maou and will serve him. I’ve played the trial as mentioned in a previous post. They didn’t really touch on the plot much as it was just an intro, but I felt that the characters were quite well done, with the exception of Kozue who was downright annoying. Choko-sensei (Chiyoko) was a blast to be with and I want a Shinobu route.

I am looking forward to this game quite a bit. The plot intrigues me, appears to have a good ratio of comedy and drama, and does not let you know too much about the meaning of the story beforehand. Added mystery gives me a reason to read and find out the answers to all those little questions about the characters, setting, and story. Not to mention that long black hair plus reddish eyes (Assuming an interesting personality)  is a flawless victory in my book. Micchi’s fujoshi fantasies about shinobu aside this is a must play for me.

Do not suppress it, embrace it!

If “It” refers to shinobu I am afraid I will have to decline your offer.

MaiKuro ~Ore ga Watashi de Boku ga Atashi de~

Company: アベリア (Abelia)
Game site: マイくろ~オレガワタシデボクガアタシデ~
Release date: October 30, 2009
MaiKuro (Mind x Cross) is the first game by Abelia. Yuuma is part of the ‘communication research group’, which actually is just a group of friends who hang out together. One day they thought that it would be interesting if you switched bodies with someone else, and miraculously that’s what happened the very next day. All the club members exchanged bodies with everyone else. I’ve seen this premise before, but usually for the sake of ero. In this case, it looks to be for comedic purposes as well as understanding how the other side feels (Chime’s route in Primary comes to mind). This looks to be a fun title, so if I have time or want a change of pace, I’ll play this.

A somewhat interesting premise as it does allow for unique relationship developments to take place. However too many people switching in such a simple way for me to take it seriously. I think a more narrow focus would have made the character development more interesting to me. If only two people switch no one else would know, which leads to a closer relationship as the result of being the only ones harboring that secret. When an entire group changes around I can only see it ending with comedy and thus not so interested in the story.

Natsuiro Penguin

Company: リトルプリンセス (Little Princess)
Game site: 夏いろペンギン
Release date: October 30, 2009 Delayed to November 27, 2009
New release date after being pushed back from September. It’s a bit late for summer now.

Penguin route.

Gengetsu no Pandora

Company: Q-X
Game site: 幻月のパンドオラ
Release date: October 30, 2009 Delayed to December 25, 2009
Fumiki wanted to join the literature club, but accidentally joined the electronics club instead. He sees a naked girl there, who takes a cable from a portable game she was holding and thrusts it into his chest. When he woke up, he found himself in a mysterious digital world. A demon Eledim wants him to collect information on peoples’ desires. After he returns to the real world, his portable game has been turned into a ‘Pandora’, capable of turning peoples’ desires into a game. This is a really weird plot. I’m still not sure what to think about this. On a side note, there’s a half Finnish girl… that must be a first.

The premise is definitely unique I will give it that. Had this been in a slow month I may have tried it out just to see if it manifests into anything interesting. However there are too many other more interesting titles this month and the OP gives it a bit of an over the top ecchi feel. Cannot say I like the artwork much either.

And it’s delayed already before we finished this post.

Might get to play it thanks to the delay, though I doubt it.

Full Metal Daemon Muramasa

Company: ニトロプラス (Nitro+)
Game site: 装甲悪鬼村正
Release date: October 30, 2009
Time for a change of pace from all these rabukome eroge! The latest game by Nitro+ is a ‘slash dark ADV’ that features 3d mecha battles. Kageaki is able to use a spider-like mecha of great power called Muramasa, however it is cursed to kill anyone, friend or foe. The CGs look quite impressive and I’m sure Nitro+ will do a great job with the story as usual.

Well cannot say I like the premise much, feels like Sengoku Basara meets Gundam… However there is little choice in the matter, I will be playing this one. It is a Nitro+ game, I have no choice. Whether or not I finish it will depend if it’s any good though.

Osananajimi wa Daitouryou My Girlfriend is the President

Company: ALcot
Game site: 幼なじみは大統領 My girlfriend is the PRESIDENT.
Release date: October 30, 2009
Watch the epic trailer. Watch it now.

Because of this trailer, the game has garnered a lot of attention among English eroge fans (and curious bystanders alike). If you didn’t watch the trailer yet, basically it’s Nippon (新本) in 20xx and some aliens forgot to take spaceship flying lessons and demolished the prime minister’s office in a crash landing. Figuring they should cover it up like any politician would, they stuck Junichirou’s childhood friend Yukino as a puppet president. Junichirou acts a vice president to Yukino and the aliens want his help in turning everything back to normal.

Yup, you read that right. This game is pretty much pure comedy with lots of jokes and parodies. A lot of us are looking forward to this after playing the trial. The UFO turns into a loli, Puuchin visits from Rusia, and spaceships attack. Go go loli spaceships!!! プーちん!プーちん!

Even Monty Python would balk at the sheer silliness that is My Girlfriend is the President. Probably about 80% or so of the people interested in this game are just hippies wondering what kind of drugs the creators were on and where they can get some of that. I have nothing against comedy games, in fact I love anything that makes me laugh, but rather than comedy this seems to simply make a gimmick of absurdity. I would say this game is akin to say strapping wings on a platypus and watching it fly around. Sure when you first see it you laugh a bit, but as soon as a platypus with wings no longer feels out of place… you wander off, bored of the idea. I get the same feeling from this game, a bit funny because of the improbability of the situation, but has nothing else going for it. So watch the trailers, watch the openings, laugh at the hilarity of a random Japanese girl becoming the US president, then promptly forget about it as I know I shall, secure in the knowledge I have seen everything this game has to offer and I am missing nothing at all by walking the other way.

On the other hand it would be nice to have even a slightly capable president, I would vote for her.

It’s a lot of slapstick comedy so if that’s something you like, then play this. Don’t expect to find a serious plot here. I’d love to see a platypus with wings. Actually, that would be a great eroge premise.

If dead foxes and cats work then why can’t a flying platypus girl!?

Koiiro Sora Moyou

Company: すたじお緑茶 (Studio Ryokucha)
Game site: 恋色空模様
Release date: October 30, 2009 Delayed to March 26, 2010
Seigo came to the quaint island of Kamina-jima a few years ago from Tokyo. He’s apathetic about everything and gives up easily. News breaks out that the school will close down after this year and some of the girls decided to petition against it. He thinks that if he helps them, then maybe they’ll like him and things won’t be as boring! Damn, he’s pathetic.

But who cares about him, the important thing are the great characters, especially wanko Aya and tsundere imouto Mikoto. Awww she’s so cute!!! The game system is also quite interesting with a moving text box similar to ALcot’s games. The game also autosaves if you forcefully close the game when your imouto suddenly enters your room. No really, they wrote that in the blog. This will be the first game I’ll play come October 30th.

Secondary character becomes the protagonist. If you think about it the main character sounds like the typical best friend, doing things just to score points with girls. Problem is when you dislike a main character the whole game is ruined as they are the character you spend the most time with. That aside, I like him. Lets face it the usual overly kind protagonist who is always a nice guy no matter what and has no ulterior motives along with being denser than uranium is getting old. Though in some ways he reminds me of myself which does make me a little biased, I hate being bored too, and would do anything if it seems interesting. Only real problem I have with him is the girls seem completely generic and boring, why would he bother to go after them in the hopes they may cure his boredom is beyond me..

Oh right that reminds me.. there are other characters too… I forgot. Ah well they look bland anyway. At a glance you can tell all of their personalities and likely problems. Well I am a nice guy so I guess I should point out that the game does stand out in the chest department, what with the perfect void located where certain objects of interest typically go. *cough* I hereby cite this game as proof as to why stereotyping is a great thing, just imagining how much time it saves me from not playing this makes me positively ecstatic.

Joker no Kuni no Alice ~Wonderful Wonder World~

Company: QuinRose under garden
Game site: ジョーカーの国のアリス~ Wonderful Wonder World ~

This all-ages otome game is for m4rry.

Looks interesting for this month indeed. Haiz, it’ll be a long time to catch up with my studies going on. At the very most I’ll try the Alcot one. ‘YES WE CAN!’

Agreement that the otome game is meant for m4rry, and I think m3rry won’t mind playing Nerine’s route in Shuffle Essence+

  • 2. m3rryweather  |  October 1, 2009 at 1:22 am

DAMMIT I’LL KILL YOU ALL with my arrows of love! <3

I’ll be quite happy to guest commentate on one of your reviews if you don’t mind my spouting of nonsensical phrases in bold letters. >w<

AND THE POWER RANGERS ARE AWESOME! At least the first and second season.

    • 3. Zen  |  October 1, 2009 at 1:43 am

Touch MY Nerine and your arrows shall avail you not.

I always hated Power Rangers, never got why other kids liked it.

  • 4. Radiant  |  October 1, 2009 at 1:26 am

lol there’s lots of fapping to be done! ^_^

Wow, series like Shuffle really know how to milk you for money (among other things)!

    • 5. Zen  |  October 1, 2009 at 1:44 am

Navel still has a lot to learn from Circus about milking franchises.

      • 6. hurr  |  November 8, 2009 at 7:19 pm

  • 7. Wrathkal  |  October 1, 2009 at 1:59 am

I’ll fight Zen for Nerine, She’s MAI WAIFU!!!

Speaking of milking franchises, DC always has the same characters in theirs, apart from expansions like DCPC, but Navel adds new ones to each ‘sequel’ they come out with.

    • 8. Micchi  |  October 1, 2009 at 2:26 am

The DC franchise has over 25 main heroines though… and sadly, I can name them all.

      • 9. Kresnik  |  October 1, 2009 at 3:01 am

My condolences, your DC syndrome is already beyond any hope of cure..

  • 10. Kresnik  |  October 1, 2009 at 2:44 am

    # Koiiro Sora Moyou << Mikoto!!
    # Osananajimi wa Daitouryou << Too bad Yukino and Ell is down behind Joseph. Just what were they thinking!
    # Mashiroiro Symphony << Akane-iro Somaru Saka Mk. 2 ?

Might try Full Metal Daemon Muramasa, if I can save some time, but I'm still not so sure of taking it or not.

  • 11. Accany  |  October 1, 2009 at 5:50 am

Muramusa’s gotta be the thing I’m looking forward to the most next to Coμ since I’ve been waiting forever for the writer to write something new after Ruitomo.

Sora tobu and osananajimi ha daitouryou would probably be on my list too….

Crossing my fingers that Mashiroiro Symphony would be as good as what palette usually produces though.

And you guys are amazing to even want to play Shuffle……………..

    • 12. Zen  |  October 1, 2009 at 6:38 am

Never played the original and always wanted to is the only real reason I want to play Shuffle.

  • 13. uis  |  October 1, 2009 at 7:25 am

oh well Shuffle, Da Capo and To Heart is same…

    • 14. momochi  |  October 1, 2009 at 11:58 am

You forgot about Type moon and their milking of fate though I agree with you on palette and the art!

      Noteworthy titles include:

      1. SHUFFLE! Essence
      2. Osananajimi wa Daitouryou
      3. Kiss to Maou to Darjeeling
      4. Mashiroiro Symphony

  • 15. dawningblue  |  October 1, 2009 at 9:20 pm

    1. Osananajimi wa Daitouryou (Pu-chiiiin!!!)
    2. Mashiroiro Symphony
    3. Kiss to Maou to Darjeeling
    4. Koiiro Sora Moyou
    5. SHUFFLE! Essence+

I know I’m pre-ordering the top two, and maybe KtMtD.

I’ve already got the English version of SHUFFLE!, so I can wait a bit for Essence+.

  • 16. Micchi  |  October 3, 2009 at 4:51 pm

@Wrathkal: That game would definitely take your mind off studies XD

@m3rry: Not a bad idea. If there’s a game that we’ll be both playing, I wouldn’t mind some comments :3

@Kresnik: I am perfectly fine!!! Oh look, more Mahiru! YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! (It’s a lost cause against Joseph…)

@Accany: I acknowledge that Shuffle isn’t anywhere close to being a good game, but…

@uis: Natsuiro Penguin still doesn’t have an OP up, so I think it might be delayed again. Watch it come out in December lol

@momochi: TYPE-MOON’s been pretty quiet lately. I guess they’re focusing more on the movie than actually releasing one of the three they planned.

    @dawningblue: プーちんというな!
