Foreign IP Restrictions on Official Sites

SakuraSakura_NanakoSakura Sakura is finally out. I thought I would never see this day. See Zen? It came out before Tiara!

Earlier this week, minori blocked foreign IPs from accessing their website. Due to comments they have since received, they have posted an explanation regarding their decision. It makes a lot of sense from their standpoint. They have even recommended that concerned foreigners voice their opinion to the Japanese government (If you do so, please do it politely). YuzuSoft and MoonStone have already followed minori’s lead and it is quite possible that other companies may too. I sincerely hope that this is resolved soon. T__T

Dream Party Osaka is coming up on June 28th. All the major companies will be represented and will bring along limited merchandise to sell, as well as promotional items from upcoming games. Too bad I’m on the other side of the world or I’d so be there (and blow all my money).

New maker Armonica debuts with Skyprythem this fall. Those are some big eyes. Recently announced release dates include: Shakunage‘s Mimi o Sumaseba (August 28th), Eternal‘s Nega0 (August 28th), SilkSoft‘s Distance (September 18th) and Akatsuki WorksCoμ -Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku-. Nega0’s OP came out and it’s weird (but has karaoke!). The only one I’m interested of these is Mimisuma – Mio, Matsuri and Hinata are all so adorable >w<

The seiyuu to Aries‘ debut game Angel Navigate have been posted. Koharu as a wanko-type imouto voiced by Ogura Yui definitely makes my ears perk up and triggers my imouto sensor.

The official site for ALcot‘s Osananajimi wa Daitouryou is up and the story is really funny. It’s the Wh*te House! ALcot also changed the site layout at the same time and it looks pretty good.

It seems Symphony‘s having some problems getting the Tiara trial version out. Maybe that means it’ll be delayed again.

Lass revealed on its blog that popular game 11eyes is getting an anime adaptation and will be serialized in CompAce. I would definitely watch it for Yuka.

Twinkle_Crusaders_MisaLillian and Penguin Parade are collaborating to make a 1/8 scale PVC figure of Misa from Twinkle Crusaders. It comes out on August 31st and costs 7140 yen. She stands 210mm tall. It looks like she’s cast-off. There’s a limited edition that includes shimapan and has a pink ブラックマ mini figure instead of it being black. More pictures here and here.

The Tenshin Ranman dakimakura poll has finished and Sana handily won with 1403 votes. Hime was second with 1132 points, edging out Aoi, who had 1020 points. Sana led the poll from beginning to end. See? Sana’s so much better than Hime. ^o^

In Koiiro Sora Moyou‘s chara poll, tsundere imouto Mikoto took the top spot with 26.2%, having led from start to finish. She was followed by maou Sera (21.4%) I wonder if it’s because of the Koiso-radio. Wanko Aya made a dash at the finish, but still ended up last with 15.4%. Since Mikoto won, there’ll be some merchandise featuring her, to be announced later.

Rin won the second Natsuiro Straight! chara poll and a mini-game devoted to her will come out on July 10th. I guess this makes up for the lack of a route for such an loveable imouto. The results for the first Imouto Smile poll will be revealed in the September issue of TECH GIAN that comes out on July 21st.

The second Natsuiro Penguin character poll is up at Little Princess. It lasts till August 7th. I guess I’ll vote for Korone. Primary also has a second character poll until July 26th. You can vote via the link on the opening screen of the game. MeroMeroCute‘s chara poll for Mahou Shoujo no Taisetsu na Koto. will run until July 17th.

The pamphlet for Natsuyume Nagisa looks nice. Yes, I plan to comment on all Natsunagi stuff until it comes out in late July.

Shou summons his courage and attempts once more to capture Gumi-chan’s love. Is it still too early?

I’ve added playlists for each month’s releases on my Youtube channel. The URL for the corresponding post is included in the description.

Started playing Da Capo II To You and loving every minute of it. I’m such a DC fan…

Responses to weekly webclaps will be included after the jump for weekly news posts from here on.

Webclap responses:

How are you? You understand English?
I’m doing well. Yes, I do ^o^

Go Sana~!! by Kotarou
Sana-chan’s awesome! But she’s mine!

I’ve finally checked out the chara voices in Mashiroiro. I swear Oto Agumi stars in every single imouto role in existence. by m3rryweather
It sure seems that way. Agumion imouto are dangerous. We’ve been wondering if Hitsuji is actually voiced by her under another name.

おっす! by Accany

おっす!I look forward to your Sakura Sakura review.

sana best imouto ~ by Passerby
Indeed, Sana is the best imouto ever. Great at everything, so loving to her niisan…. I’m beginning to sound like a broken record.

omfg. As I first read the your article about the blocking I thought (or was it hope?) you might be kidding. Still, you’re obviously not as I’ve looked at the banned homepage there…

  • 2. accany  |  June 26, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Micchi, I can’t proxy in to MoonStone so I’m hoping it’s just the website being down. Or maybe they’re updating for the ban.

    • 3. accany  |  June 26, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Ok nvm I just got confirmation from a japanese guy. He could go in without any problems. Therefore. ONE MOAR TO THE BAN LIST.

This is some very dire news to us who lived outside of Japan. I just hoped that the situation won’t get any worse >_<

  • 5. Algester  |  June 27, 2009 at 1:07 am

and now for some news…. apparently its the only site im looking at so far Innocent Grey will very very soon release their new game Caucasus (font looks like from Cartagra) anyway MANYO does the BGM and OP vocal is by shimotsukin ok…. anyway…. THE BANS HAS TO STOP @_@

  • 6. Zakarum  |  June 27, 2009 at 7:55 am

I can access Moonstone no problem.
    YuzuSoft and minori are blocked.
Teatime is blocked too but they have always been that way.

2 more pages to remove from favorites… or just route another proxy… in Japan…

    • 7. Micchi  |  June 27, 2009 at 10:22 am

That’s odd, since I can access TEATIME just fine, but MOONSTONE shows me a 403 Forbidden.

      • 8. Zakarum  |  June 27, 2009 at 11:43 am

They probably blocked different IP address ranges. You happen to be included in Moonstone’s range, I happen to be included in Teatime’s range.

        • 9. Micchi  |  June 27, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Can I switch with you? T_T

        • 10. Algester  |  June 27, 2009 at 7:53 pm

apparently accany concluded that major ISPs got the hammer on moonstone’s site and that i can browse TEATIME’s site no problem… bleh.

        • 11. m3rryweather  |  June 27, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Wow, and I was sure everyone was bonkers because I can access Moonstone and Teatime’s websites just fine.

I feel sad to hear that.
They have to know there’re so many visualnovel fans in foreign countries.
They have to know some foreigners translate their websites and help them to be known by many foreigners.
Japanese people and foreigners are pretty much the same in love for those games.
It’s weird that some companies block foreigners.
I’ll try to ask them why they block foreign friends.

    • 13. Micchi  |  June 27, 2009 at 7:47 pm

Thank you, that would be really nice of you.

I wish that instead of blocking IPs, they should use some type of filter where to access the site from outside of Japan, you would need to enter Japanese via some instructions (in Japanese), sort of like what erogmap did recently.

This way those people who understand Japanese and want to browse these sites can do so, while those foreigners who are on a witchhunt won’t ‘accidentally’ stumble upon them.

Regardless, while I understand their concern, their action won’t help their cause much and merely alienate those foreigners who ARE interested in their games.

      • 14. Zen  |  June 27, 2009 at 8:04 pm

I feel that I must disagree about the negative aspect of their choices. Given all the pressure eroge have received lately if this helps ease matters I for one do not see the problem. Proxy is always an option after all.

It is also true that the foreign audience are not their targeted demographic. Yes there are people not in japan who play the games they make, as I am sure most of the people visiting the blog are. However the games are only released in japan itself thus cutting others off in an official manner will probably not have a major impact, and may even reflect well in the eyes of other countries.

That said, I feel that Minori were the most constructive in their approach to the ip ban situation. Placing an explanation for their reasons as well as links to proper channels for foreigners direct their complaints.

I feel that alienating those of us who are interested in eroge is a bit harsh as well. I cannot speak for the rest of you, however I for one am no less interested. Even if we assume that the sites for the game companies were completely blocked off, that hardly means the games themselves will disappear off the face of the planet. Might just have to make do with a bit less information before releases. Not really the end of the world in my opinion.
