Spring 2009 Anime
Watching the snow melt and mercury rise can mean only one thing… it’s springtime! This also means that there’s a brand new anime season. Historically, the spring season is one of the strongest for anime. I’m sure it will not let us down this year. The video above courtesy of Niconico and Youtube briefly shows each new show, a short plot summary, the start date (and airing stations), and the cast and staff. For those that aren’t literate in Japanese, please check out the English summary. This is a secondary source, so I do not take credit for it.
Hmm… watching the video, I’m actually not that hyped about this season. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t been watching anime lately. It seems that there’s a lot of action series, which isn’t my favourite genre. I’m most definitely going to try out K-ON! and possibly Tayutama and Saki. Without further ado, some random comments from me!
Asura Cryin’: Light-hearted school anime with some drama? Osananajimi who won’t leave your side even after they’re dead? Not so fast. Looking at the site, it seems to have plenty of action. For some reason, first thing that came to my mind was Night Wizard.
Cooking Idol I! My! Mine!: Cute chars, but obviously this one’s aimed at a younger audience. Not that that’s kept anyone from watching such shows.
Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!: … Are those tentacles?
Full Metal Alchemist: Second season. Extremely hyped, but I never got into it aside from watching a few episodes. Looks nice though.
Hatsukoi Gentei: It seems like there’s too many characters for a cohesive plot to build upon. The plot summary doesn’t really strike me as anything interesting.
Hayate no Gotoku!!: Second season. I didn’t watch the first, except for the occasional episode. I’m sure Micchan will watch this.
Jewel Pets: Wow.
Kiniro no Corda ~second passo~: I really should finish watching the first season. I wouldn’t mind continuing watching this.
K-ON!: KyoAni… check. Moe lead chara… check. This one’s a lock. I also have a thing for students banding together to save their club. It reminds me a bit of my past. It has a Manabi Straight! feel to it.
Pandora Hearts: The plot and art seem ok. Well XEBEC is doing this, so I guess the fighting scenes will be decent.
Phantom: Noticed this was adapted from a Nitro+ game. Looks to be quite serious. I’m not really fond of their games though (not light-hearted enough). This reminds me of Noir.
Queen’s Blade: Sorry, I’m not a fan of girls with big breasts fighting. Never understood why people liked this so much.
Ristorante Paradiso: A slice of life cooking anime. Hmm, this could work. Don’t care much for the art though.
Saki: A mahjong anime? That sounds stupid as an anime based on Go or Shogi. Oh wait. All joking aside, I actually like mahjong (although I don’t understand the Japanese version that well) and the characters look loli cute, so I’ll check this out.
Senjou no Valkyria: I like the premise of a war reminiscent of Europe in WWII. So, Gallia = Switzerland? Art looks ok.
Shangri-La: Hmm… cute character and the plot is a sign of the times too (global warming). I know this is Gonzo, but this could be a gem.
Souten Kouro: Cao Cao as the main character? Interesting. I need to stop playing Shin Koihime Musou, it’s screwing with my mind.
Star Wars / Clone Wars: What. I’d rather watch Lego Stars Wars.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu: Is this just a repeat broadcast?
Tayutama: Based on Lump of Sugar’s most recent game. I’m actually surprised it got adapted so quickly. Hemi-tan must be extremely excited over this. I’ll probably check it out too due to Hemi-tan’s posts about it.
Tears to Tiara: Adapted from Leaf’s SRPG. I haven’t played the game, but heard it wasn’t that good. Hmm… adventure… I hope it doesn’t turn episodic and ends up decent. Wonder if they’d take a route similar to Tower of Druaga.
Chi’s Sweet Home
Eden of the East
Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari
Marie and Gali
Natsu no Arashi!
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica Crimson S
