RO Battlegrounds

I heard from Zen that Ep 12.0 came out today in RO, so I went to check it out. I’ve read a lot about this from kRO before I lost interest in RO. This patch included the destruction of Morroc, resurrection of Satan Morroc, as well as Infinity Tower, Baphomet Seal Shrine and Battlegrounds. I just hopped on to take a look around Morroc, then headed to Prontera to try out battlegrounds.

Morroc is pretty much even more uninhabitable and forgotten like before. Moving along…

The NPCs to enter battlegrounds are located in various major towns. I entered via Prontera, near the mid Kafra spawn point. Battlegrounds is basically a party-oriented PvP where opposing sides fight a la capture the flag, with some twists. There are two types: Flavius and Tierra Valley. Each gives a reward of badges used to redeem nice stuff. Of course, you need hundreds of them.

There was a decent amount of people trying it out. Maximum number per side is 12 (+ the NPC for a total of 13 in the chat room). I went on my HP with some Subcon people since my scholar was half naked in the middle of Thors 1 (Thanks Justin). It took a while to get a match going since people were running around. Tierra Valley was first and was really quick. It was kind of boring though.

Then, we went to Flavius. Since it was best of 3 and the guardians were overpowered, it took FOREVER. We actually ran out of time while leading. I ended up using over 100 bgems for SW and sanc. Pretty lame.

These are the badges that you get. Depending on the result, you’ll get a few or a lot.

After trying it out, I think that it could be good, but there needs to be some tweaks to it. I’ll probably hop on RO every now and then when I’m bored to do some BG runs. Since I’m not that much of a PvP fan, this wouldn’t be something that I’d do on a consistent basis.

Seems pretty boring. Though I only played RO for pvp for a long time this seems like a failure. I was really looking forward to it as a possible fun game to make RO more interesting again.

The problem is probably going to be not enough people, particularly ones who are not completely useless in a team based setting. Just having guardians there is silly, I can see one by the flag but that is about it.

All in all to me I would say RO has failed once again and I do not think it is enough to make me want to play again.

Aww Morroc is gone? I used to like that place…I should go look for any good classic Morroc screenies I might still have…Are there any new cute headgears along with this patch? D: Thats what made RO worth playing /ok

Morroc is just… a crater now. Which makes the town a lot more interesting than it used to be, and doubles as a portal to another world.

Ahahahahaha headgears XD. Devi hat and small ribbons still glued to your head I take it? Oh nekomimi hat too! But I do not think there were any new cute headgears. If there were they would be in the kafra shop since all new headgears come from there.

@Zen: Ya, it just seems to much of the same stuff. For Flavius, you need to kill the guardians before being able to attack the emp. The problem is they’re so ridiculously overpowered that it takes forever… and we had 3 HW. I heard if they’re esked, it’s pretty much gg.

@Kiku-chan: Morroc’s still around, but there’s a hole in the middle of it. I haven’t really looked at the new headgears. Basically everything’s in the Kafra shop nowadays; making you pay more on top of your monthly subscription. Hooray.

The guardians are not too bad as long as there are not 8 or so on a portal. Seems to be the only way Iris players ever defeneded but by themselves the gardians arent too bad. Eske makes them hurt but at least you won’t have the massive lag from 8 guilds fighting in woe. Collect lots of webs for fiberlock spam!

So I randomly discovered that I still have RO installed. Quite amazing really, I had thought I deleted it awhile ago.. Anyway I decided since my account was active I should hop on and see what battlegrounds was all about.

Seems that now it is 20 people per side, and most people were doing Tierra Valley. I found it actually quite fun though I always was a PvP junkie in RO. Since I only got to play Tierra I can only comment on that, but wow it was pretty fun for a bit. The biggest problem was the cool down time before you are allowed back in. Matches ended so fast.. well that is partly because the Blue side pretty much always beat the commie reds decisively.

I ended up with 50 something of the badges after around an hour or two. Probably would have hit 100 if I did not get dragged away for ktullanux during which a game of musical afk started. Nevertheless battlegrounds does not feel all that grindy to me. The rate at which you get tokens is pretty good, and team based PvP is quite fun.

Really the biggest problem with it, is how fast the matches are. They are usually over in a few minutes, slightly longer than it takes to walk to the other sides base. Again this is due to rather unbalanced teams. This caused the wait timer to be quite an annoyance when trying to get back in.

@Zen: PvP junkie alert! Well glad you enjoyed it. I didn’t really care for it that much.
