Mother 3 – Fan Translation Finished!
Nemuiwanko here! I’m going to try to post a bit more since Micchi-senpai is on vacation. I don’t want Micchi-senpai’s page to dry up without updates o_o Recently I’ve been playing Mother 3 during my public transportation rides to school. It’s the sequel of Mother 2 (or to those who played the North American localization, Earthbound!) Earthbound itself is a fan favorite as it was one of those rare SNES RPGs that had a modern setting.
Anyway, Mother 3 was released in Japan a few years back. But despite the fan following in the U.S. for Earthbound, it seemed like there was no way Mother 3 would ever hit the U.S. But a group of dedicated fans took it upon themselves to translate the game, and now the translation is available to be patched to a ROM for play. The translation was released awhile ago actually so I’m pretty late in posting this ^_^ I’ll be comparing this game and Earthbound when I finish up. But the translation looks great, and it feels like I’m playing the original since the graphics are the same o_o
I have to comment though that there has been a huge amount of translation projects popping out lately for Japanese games. It’s pretty impressive to see that people now have more access to Japanese games even if they aren’t proficient with the language. I don’t think I could have played through Mother 3 and have enough fun with it since I don’t want to be flipping a regular paper dictionary when I need to look up words x_x;;
