G3 Mainstream Review
The Generation 3 (G3) Mainstream storyline is the last of the trilogy involving the three warriors. Implemented on NA Mabinogi on August 22, 2008. It took me about 3 days to complete. Here’s a recap of my journey.
Note: The following are SPOILERS for G3. If you do not wish to see them, please refrain from doing so.
Logging in to Mabinogi, most people have already crowded Tarlach to start the G3 quest. Lots of owls flying everywhere. Seems like people want to get it done ASAP. Good luck to them.
Heading to the Other World to talk to Morc. This requires going through a short Barri solo. Pretty easy stuff.
This looks as deserted as Tir na Nog. Time to head to Morc at the Dragon Ruins…
I didn’t really care much about what he had to say. I was more interested in what he had to say about other stuff. The more you know…
Heading back to Erinn, we’re treated to a cutscene of Triona and Ruairi. Then, another with Ruairi and Morgant in a ceremony involving the Dark Knights, where he is given the holy sword Pragarah by Morgant.
Learning about Macha, I head west to Emain Macha to learn more about this goddess and the curse she cast upon the city and humankind.
After finishing the book and talking to Tarlach again, I began on a journey to restore the broken Goddess statues in all 9 dungeons: Coill, Runda, Peaca, Barri, Fiodh, Rabbie, Math, Ciar and Alby. The only ones that were hard were Coill and Peaca. I did Coill with Steparu, and Peaca with a bunch of Puripuri and Avalon people. This Peaca is only one floor and is very straightforward; it takes only about 20 minutes or so. I also completed it with 3 people before. Just need to watch out with the ghost spawn. It seems that NA Mabinogi implemented the original version of G3 mainstream as opposed to the ‘nerfed’ easier version of it, that eliminated Coill and Peaca and shortens Baol intrusion (see below) to 1 floor instead of 3.
Epic boss battle is epic.
At Barri, we’re treated to a cutscene that shows Ruairi ordering the destruction of the Goddess statues. Ruairi, I love you, but you’re so misguided.
At Math dungeon, the paladin guard attempt to fight Ruairi and the ghost armors, but are forced to retreat.
Fastforward to Alby dungeon. Entering the boss room, I see… Ruairi!? I’m outnumbered!
No, you’ve got it all wrong!!!
(Don’t just stand there! Help me!)
Today’s question is: How many people does it take to kill a bunny?
Luckily, Redire Price arrives in the nick of time and saves my tail.
After talking with Price and Aodhan, I tell Tarlach that Ruairi is alive and is now a Dark Knight. He asks me about Mari. I tell him that she’s now Nao. In order to let him see her himself, I had to make a Holy Potion of Lymilark.
Luckily, I didn’t fail at 99% like Yoshi some people.
Now with Tarlach’s help in helping free Morrighan and all the priests’ information about the resurrection of Macha, it’s time to defeat Dorca Feadhain and break Lia Fail.
I picked up a pass from Muro on Ceo Island and also an invisible cloak from Aodhan.
Tarlach also gave me a book about us, the Milletians, the one “from the stars”. Different from Tuatha De Denanns, we are capable of rapid growth and the ability to be reborn. We do not experience death, ever. Our perception of time is also different. I’m not going to write everything about it, but if you’re doing the quest yourself, take some time and read the book while you’re heading back to Emain Macha to complete the quest. It’s a very interesting read.
Now that everything is ready, time to put the robe on and sneak into Baol dungeon to destroy Lia Fail! Note that this part only can be attempted on Imbolic (Sunday).
Cutscene first. Trionaaaaaaaa!!!
This is by far the hardest dungeon since death means restarting, and the whole dungeon is full of hard monsters. Did I also mention that you cannot use any magic aside from healing? 3 floors, 31 trigger rooms in total. Good thing I’m an archer.
Stuff like this happens.
Time to break Lia Fail!
What!? It’s a trap!? This is a serious case of deja vu.
Saved again, this time by Kristell. (By the way, her mouth looks off)
Having failed the intrusion since that was a fake Lia Fail, I now have to stop the summoning of Cromm Cruach, the Demon of Destruction, a God of Death masked as a dragon. Time to embark on a side quest to learn more about Aodhan’s past (Eavan if you’re playing a male character). It’s mostly about sacrifices and protecting the ones you love. You get a 5 protection charm that you wear around your wrists from it, although I didn’t use it myself.
All preparations are now completed. Time to drag 2 unwilling victims along get my friends to help me to beat Baol final dungeon. Just like G1 Albey pendant (Glas Ghaibhleann) dungeon, it’s a dungeon for 3 people where you are not allowed to use Nao. We stocked up on lots of supplies (HP/MP/SP pots, blessing waters, full recovery pots, bandages, feathers, party feathers, healer and bank coupons, a few spare weapons, thousands of arrows) and gave some advanced feathers to a friend (thanks Lux!). Here we go!
I hate Argus family.
Finally reached the boss room after about 3 hours. Short Ruairi and Morgant fight before a cutscene.
Cichol is using Triona and Lia Fail to summon Cromm Cruach. Tarlach (with his trusty lute) and Mari (cosplaying as Nao) appear to save us from being nuked by Cichol. Tarlach breaks Lia Fail and Ruairi attacks Cichol to keep him from attacking Tarlach. Morrighan comes after being freed by Tarlach and seals the place and pretty much tells us ‘good luck fighting it cuz we’re getting the hell outta here’ (THANKS!).
(That’s a death flag if I’ve seen one)
Aaaaaaand, there he goes.
Morrighan cannot forgive Cichol’s heartlessness, but then Cichol drops the bomb. Morrighan had been lying all along! Tir na nog is… Erinn!?
Then, Cichol reveals that even without Lia Fail and Triona, he still can summon the dragon since he can use Ruairi! Oh shi-
We have to fight… THAT!?
Filling it with arrows. AR is yummy.
What! It’s still alive!
The dragon then talks a lot about philosophical things, like differences between the Fomors and humans, greed and chaos, how paradise ceases to be paradise when someone unworthy of being in paradise enters it, and even if we did not pay for our sins, those closest to us will pay for it in great agony.
So long until G8…
Tying up some loose ends, Morgant says he’ll run into me again and that light and darkness are the same thing. Aodhan finally comes to terms with his past and understands that he was the one chosen to help me.
This concludes the journey through G3 of Arietta, Savior of Erinn.
Thanks for reading! Comments are very much welcome!
